  फिर तब तालूत सेनाएँ लेकर चला तो उनने कहा," अल्लाह निश्चित रूप से एक नदी द्वारा तुम्हारी परीक्षा लेनेवाला है । तो जिसने उसका पानी पी लिया, वह मुझमें से नहीं है और जिसने उसको नहीं चखा, वही मुझमें से है । यह और बात है कि कोई अपने हाथ से एक चुल्लू भर ले ले ।" फिर उनमें से थोड़े लोगों के सिवा सभी ने उसका पानी पी लिया, फिर जब तालूत और ईमानवाले जो उसके साथ थे नदी पार कर गए तो कहने लगे," आज हममें जालूत और उसकी सेनाओं का मुक़ाबला करने की शक्ति नहीं हैं ।" इस पर लोगों ने, जो समझते थे कि उन्हें अल्लाह से मिलना है, कहा," कितनी ही बार एक छोटी - सी टुकड़ी ने अल्लाह की अनुज्ञा से एक बड़े गिरोह पर विजय पाई है । अल्लाह तो जमनेवालो के साथ है ।"
