A Matter Overlooked

BUT AS THE SOCIETY SAYS, IF MARITAL RAPE ISN'T AN ACTUAL THING, AND BEING AN HOUSEWIFE IS A JOB, THEN ISN'T THIS HARRASEMENT AT WORKPLACE?

Marriage is considered to be one of the purest rituals of an individual’s life. It is considered to be the accomplishment of the match that was made in heaven between the two souls that were pre decided to be together and the road to that could be love before marriage or the family’s consent.As the time is changing and all of us just talk about gender equality , then where is this so - called equality when it comes to women’s right?Women’s right does not always mean taking a candle and marching out to make an issue being known by the society , and , if that is the only to make people aware about a women’s problem , then why is this problem not raised so far? Isn’t that a matter of concern?

Does being married , give your husband the right to rape his wife? Quite a confusing line, isn’t? A lot of questions would be going on, in your mind at present,that, “how can a husband do so? They are married and so legally allowed to do so.” The problem prevails in this thinking , though most of the people are educated and wait for the consent of the partner, but what about the people left who do not realize the scenario , they create for their wives, leaving them in a horrified condition, where wives are treated no less than animals. The woman,who becomes the victim of marital rape cannot even tell her parents because most of the timeswhen she tries to do so , she is either lead down by them , or is told that , this is the way , both of you are married and so he has the right to do that.

But just think , is marital rape right? Even the constitution does not understand the severity of the matter and so the crimes remains overlooked. Why is the that under section 375 , there is no mention of marital rape ? To the surprise, there are even countries, who make the rapist marry the victim , but is that a solution to problem , what about the girls life? Would that rapist change?Whenever there is a wrong done with a women, we raise our voice to fight against it , but why in this case , everyone is silent? Isn’t having non-consensual sexual co habilitation ,a crime? Then why , is this type of rape hidden in the name of “ intense love making”? The situation probably prevails because of the mindset of the society, that we are taught since we were younger ,which says that, a woman needs to please her spouse and it is her duty to do so, no matter how. Most of the people find it really funny to even think of a topic like this. But isn’t it important to ask her first? What if she was not ready for it? She is your life partner and marriage is said to be the match of two souls , so just try and listen to what her soul says . Some women can’t bear the violence that comes along with marital rape and commit suicide.

Most of the people at present are educated and understand the need of the consent and trust of partner, but what about the other ones, where still the stereotype prevails? They should be educated that they need to earn a women’s soul first and then her body. There is a need for amendment in the definition of rape , given in section 375 of IPC and also a need to accept that marital rape is a problem faced by hundreds of women.
