Dear Almighty,

They don't want me to enter this world. Yes, they are my parents. I often hear them talking about a baby boy. They won't be happy when they see me, a girl. I don't want to live. Kill me!.

Save girl child- a popular slogan these days everywhere in India. Beti Bachao, Beti padhao in advertisements and walls of this country. It exists there only. A mother is forced to kill a girl in her womb. Yes, they are in danger. It's just like a project started to save an extinct species. Some years back, we witnessed the Kathua rape case. It proved that girls need to be saved. They should be saved from these animals in the veil of humans. Our girls are not safe in their own homes. Why not issue a warning letter before the birth of a girl child? Or give her the power to fight against every injustice when she learns to step out in this world until the end.

Our so-called ideal society believes not to allow girls to go out at night. Why? When these culprits are wondering freely on roads, then why a girl has to live in the shackles of confinement?

They are writing the fate of a girl saying that ye kya kregi padh likhkar, aage jaakar to ghar hi sambhalegi. Gender equality is merely a myth. We the People of India have defined these gender roles and are implementing them very proudly in our lives. Men go to work outside and women are made to stay at home and take care of her children. If anyone dares to go for a change, she is a feminist or in other words, a frustrated woman who doesn't care for her family. Patriarchy is the strongest pillar standing in front of us. It won't let anything change.

Who will decide my limits?

Me, my family or this society,

Or the blessings of Almighty.

A girl has many limitations,

Is there any difference in lord’s creation?

The patriarchal mindset of society doesn't let things change. Come on! we have entered into the 21st century and we still expect the woman to live in a veil. Why is she offended on wearing the clothes of her own choice? She is tired of proving her existence. She needs support and opportunity. She is a sister, a daughter and a mother. Don't try to fit her in a frame, let her find her space. Ensure that she breathes in freedom, not fear.
