• This present life is like the water We send down from the sky. The plants of the earth mix with it and from it mankind and cattle eat ; then when the earth has become lush and adorned, its inhabitants think they have power over it, Our command comes upon it by night or day, and We cause it to be stubble, just as though it had not flourished the day before. In this way We distinguish Our verses for those who reflect.
  दुनियावी ज़िदगी की मसल तो बस पानी की सी है कि हमने उसको आसमान से बरसाया फिर ज़मीन के साग पात जिसको लोग और चौपाए खा जाते हैं अपना बनाओ सिंगार कर लिया और आरास्ता हो गई और खेत वालों ने समझ लिया कि अब वह उस पर यक़ीनन क़ाबू पा गए यकायक हमारा हुक्म व अज़ाब रात या दिन को आ पहुँचा तो हमने उस खेत को ऐसा साफ कटा हुआ बना दिया कि गोया कुल उसमें कुछ था ही नहीं जो लोग ग़ौर व फिक्र करते हैं उनके वास्ते हम आयतों को यूँ तफसीलदार बयान करते है

• Have you not seen how Allah sends down water from the sky and threaded it as springs in the earth ? Then, He brings forth plants of various colors, after which they wither, and you see them turning yellow, and then He makes them into broken stubble. Surely, in this there is a reminder for those of understanding.
  क्या तुमने नहीं देखा कि अल्लाह ने आकाश से पानी उतारा, फिर धरती में उसके स्रोत प्रवाहित कर दिए ; फिर उसने द्वारा खेती निकालता है, जिसके विभिन्न रंग होते है ; फिर वह सूखने लगती है ; फिर तुम देखते हो कि वह पीली पड़ गई ; फिर वह उसे चूर्ण - विचूर्ण कर देता है ? निस्संदेह इसमें बुद्धि और समझवालों के लिए बड़ी याददिहानी है

• Verily We We sent upon them one shout, and they became as the stubble of a fold - builder.
  हमने उनपर एक धमाका छोड़ा, फिर वे बाड़ लगानेवाले की रौंदी हुई बाड़ की तरह चूरा होकर रह गए

• Never forget that the life of this world is only a game and a passing delight, a show, and mutual boasting and trying to outrival each other in riches and children. It is like the growth of vegetation after the rain, which delights the planter, but which then withers away, turns yellow and becomes worthless stubble. In the life to come there will be a terrible punishment, or God ' s forgiveness and approval: the life of this world is nothing but means of deception.
  जान रखो कि दुनियावी ज़िन्दगी महज़ खेल और तमाशा और ज़ाहिरी ज़ीनत और आपस में एक दूसरे पर फ़ख्र क़रना और माल और औलाद की एक दूसरे से ज्यादा ख्वाहिश है बारिश की सी मिसाल है जिस से किसानों की खेती उनको ख़ुश कर देती थी फिर सूख जाती है तो तू उसको देखता है कि ज़र्द हो जाती है फिर चूर चूर हो जाती है और आख़िरत में सख्त अज़ाब है और ख़ुदा की तरफ से बख़्शिस और ख़ुशनूदी और दुनयावी ज़िन्दगी तो बस फ़रेब का साज़ो सामान है

• Give them an example about worldly life. It is like the vegetation of the earth that thrives when watered by the rain, which We send down from the sky, and then it all becomes stubble which the wind blows away. God has power over all things.
  और इनसे दुनिया की ज़िन्दगी की मसल भी बयान कर दो कि उसके हालत पानी की सी है जिसे हमने आसमान से बरसाया तो ज़मीन की उगाने की ताक़त उसमें मिल गई और फिर आख़िर रेज़ा रेज़ा हो गई कि उसको हवाएँ उड़ाए फिरती है और ख़ुदा हर चीज़ पर क़ादिर है

• And propound thou unto them the similitude of the life of the World. It is as water which We send down from the heaven, then there mingleth therewith the vegetation of the earth, and lo! it becometh dry stubble which the winds scatter and Allah is over everything potent.
