• Such persons as are covetous and commend covetousness to men. And if any turn back, verily Allah is Free of all Needs, Worthy of all Praise.
  जो स्वयं कंजूसी करते है और लोगों को भी कंजूसी करने पर उकसाते है, और जो कोई मुँह मोड़े तो अल्लाह तो निस्पृह प्रशंसनीय है

• Covetous over you. Then when fear comes, thou wilt see them looking to thee, their eyes revolving, like one over whom hovers death: but when the fear is past, they will smite you with sharp tongues, covetous of goods. Such men have no faith, and so Allah has made their deeds of none effect: and that is easy for Allah.
  तुम्हारे साथ कृपणता से काम लेते है । अतः जब भय का समय आ जाता है, तो तुम उन्हें देखते हो कि वे तुम्हारी ओर इस प्रकार ताक रहे कि उनकी आँखें चक्कर खा रही है, जैसे किसी व्यक्ति पर मौत की बेहोशी छा रही हो । किन्तु जब भय जाता रहता है तो वे माल के लोभ में तेज़ ज़बाने तुमपर चलाते है । ऐसे लोग ईमान लाए ही नहीं । अतः अल्लाह ने उनके कर्म उनकी जान को लागू कर दिए । और यह अल्लाह के लिए बहुत सरल है

  जो ख़ुद भी बुख्ल करते हैं और दूसरे लोगों को भी बुख्ल करना सिखाते हैं और जो शख़्श रूगरदानी करे तो ख़ुदा भी बेपरवा सज़ावारे हम्दोसना है

• You will see they are covetous of life more than other men, even more than those who practise idolatry. Each one of them desires to live a thousand years, although longevity will never save them from punishment, for God sees all they do.
  तुम उन्हें सब लोगों से बढ़कर जीवन का लोभी पाओगे, यहाँ तक कि वे इस सम्बन्ध में शिर्क करनेवालो से भी बढ़े हुए है । उनका तो प्रत्येक व्यक्ति यह इच्छा रखता है कि क्या ही अच्छा होता कि उस हज़ार वर्ष की आयु मिले, जबकि यदि उसे यह आयु प्राप्त भी जाए, तो भी वह अपने आपको यातना से नहीं बचा सकता । अल्लाह देख रहा है, जो कुछ वे कर रहे है

  और चल दिए और जब कोई ख़ौफ आ पड़ा तो देखते हो कि तुम्हारी तरफ देखते हैं उनकी ऑंखें इस तरह घूमती हैं जैसे किसी शख्स पर मौत की बेहोशी छा जाए फिर वह ख़ौफ जाता रहा और ईमानदारों की फतेह हुई तो माले पर गिरते पड़ते फौरन तुम पर अपनी तेज़ ज़बानों से ताना कसने लगे ये लोग से ईमान ही नहीं लाए तो खुदा ने भी इनका किया कराया सब अकारत कर दिया और ये तो खुदा के वास्ते एक आसान बात थी

• Being chary of helping you. But when danger appears you will find them looking at you with eyes turning like a man ' s in the swoon of death. Yet when the danger is past they lash you with sharp tongues, covetous of the best. Such as these have not come to belief. So God nullifies whatever they have done. This is how God works inevitably.
  और चल दिए और जब कोई ख़ौफ आ पड़ा तो देखते हो कि तुम्हारी तरफ देखते हैं उनकी ऑंखें इस तरह घूमती हैं जैसे किसी शख्स पर मौत की बेहोशी छा जाए फिर वह ख़ौफ जाता रहा और ईमानदारों की फतेह हुई तो माले पर गिरते पड़ते फौरन तुम पर अपनी तेज़ ज़बानों से ताना कसने लगे ये लोग से ईमान ही नहीं लाए तो खुदा ने भी इनका किया कराया सब अकारत कर दिया और ये तो खुदा के वास्ते एक आसान बात थी

• Indeed man has been created covetous:
  और बन्द कर रखा बेशक इन्सान बड़ा लालची पैदा हुआ है
