The diversity of India makes it one of the most interesting countries in the world, be it on account of the blend of different cultures and various cuisines. Indian cuisine is one of the most loved cuisines in the world. The best part about it is that, you can try out cuisines belonging to different geographical locations of India at a particular place. For example, sitting in Mumbai, I have been relishing flavours from the South, or even the North East. Let me share my favourite cuisines with you today!

North Indian Cuisine

The region includes the following states: Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Famous food items in this cuisine are Mutter Paneer (a curry made with cottage cheese and peas), Biryani, Pulaos, Daal Makhani, Dahi Gosht, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Fish Amritsari, Samosas (snack with a pastry case with different kinds of fillings), Chaat (hot-sweet-sour snack made with potato, chick peas and tangy chutneys), Motichoor Laddoo.

South Indian Cuisine

South India has hot, humid climate and all its states are coastal. Rainfall is abundant and so is the supply of fresh fruit, vegetables, and rice. Major items falling under this category include Idlis, Dosas, Vadas, Sambaar, Uttapams, Rasam and Payasam.

Rajasthani Thali

There's one experience every tourist in Rajasthan craves--that perfect Rajasthani thali, with a number of traditional dishes served on a big platter. Components of the Thali include Daal Baati Choorma, Roti, Kadhi, Kachori, Five-ingredient daal, Gujia, Ghevar and many more.

Punjabi Thali

Who can overlook a heavenly Punjabi thali? The generous use of Makkhan (butter) in most of the dishes signifies a rich Punjabi meal. This thali is a lot like the people in Punjab - robust and full of life. The popular Pujabi thali consists of Amritsari Kulcha or Naan, Pindhi Chhole, Dal Makhani, Jeera Rice, Paneer Makhani and a big glass of Lassi. The non-vegetarian thali may include Butter Chicken, Amritsari Machchi and Naan.

Street Food

Street foods are ready to eat food or drink generally sold in streets, public areas like a market, in fair by a hawker, or vendors with portable stalls. Indian streets are well famous for their cheap and tasty food items. A few notable examples are Chhole bhature, Samose, Litti Chokha, Jalebi Fafda, Aloo Tikki, Pani Puri, Chaat, Vada Paav, Dabeli, Sev Poori and Pakore.

One of the main reasons why tourists visit India is to taste the spicy food specialities at very low costs. It is indeed amazing to see that the Indian cuisine is itself very convincing and proves that "taste never fades".
