Jhal muri is a special street food which originated in the Bengal region of India. This tangy and spicy food made with puffed rice and some tidbits added to it is an all time favoriteoption for every Bengalito munch on. Whether you are gossiping with your friends in the evening or you are on a bus or train journey or you are walking with your special someone in the narrow lanes of Kolkata, being a bengali you will have one thing in your hand and that is a 'thonga' ( news paper wraps) of jhal muri.

SERVINGS: 3
INGEDRIENTS :

  • 3 cups puffed rice

  • 2 tbsp mustard oil ( main flavouring agent)

  • green chilies( as much as you can tolerate, that's why it is called 'jhal' meaning hot)

  • 1/2 tsp chaat masala

  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp aamchur

  • 2 tbsp cucumber, finely chopped

  • 2 tbsp tomato , finely chopped

  • 4 tbsp onion, finely chopped.

  • coriander leaves.

PREPARATION METHODS :

  1. Take the puffed rice in a large bowl.

  2. Addthe chaat masala, cumin powder, salt and aamchur, mustard oil and mix well.

  3. Add the chopped onions, cucumber, tomato to it.

  4. Mix well but be careful that you do not make the puffed rice soggy.

  5. Finally, serve jhal muri topped with coriander leaves.
