To be perfectly honest, I'm a complete Seinfeld junkie. I live and breathe this show. I’m not really sure how I stumbled upon this minefield of up-class comedy but am certainly very glad that I did. All the episodes are based on little insignificant observations blown out of proportion. It feels totally outlandish to connect with characters at first, but once the humour style kicks in, you are stuck. The first season was my buffer, honestly not so much fun, but then it got intensely crazy!

It amazes me how so many people I know can’t stand this show. I wouldn't say that Seinfeld is just like any other "comedy" series. It has gone out of its way to create an entirely new and unique image for itself and that is - A show about nothing. But how can a show about nothing run for so many years and have fan followers like me, you ask? Let me give you a few reasons, why I would choose Seinfeld over Friends, if someone were to say, stick a gun to my head and I mean literally:-

  • Utterly daring for its time

The question is how many shows in the ‘80s and before embarked upon topics like homosexuality, masturbation or perhaps group sex? And amazingly, Seinfeld does this without a single swear word, act of violence, or dash of ego.Not only that, butSeinfeld was able to evade censorship with use of clever, oblique language. How many times did the characters use the term "masturbation" in "The Contest" episode? Not once. Instead, they coined terms like "master of his domain" which remained in the popular culture discourse for years afterwards.

  • Characters and storyline and brilliant catch-phrases

Seinfeld has given the world some of the most outlandish, hilarious and preposterous characters, all the while making it terribly impossible to dislike any of them. The characters are utterly candid and brazen in their outlook. Seinfeld characters were simply exaggerated version of traits most people see in themselves. Jerry(the protagonist) found the tiniest, most petty reasons to break up with women, but you'd be lying if you weren't annoyed by partners who liked TV commercials you hated, or had "mad hands". For all their flaws, Seinfeld characters were totally relatable and that's why they were impossible to hate.

Man hands. Re-gifting. Close talker. Low talker. High talker, even. These are just a handful of the dozens of catch-phrasesSeinfeld introduced. My personal favourite ‘Serenity Now’.

  • Inspiration for our adored shows, you guessed it right F.R.I.E.N.D.S

I dare you to find me a show where an entire episode revolves around locating one's car in the Parking garage and make it funny at the same time. How about an episode, where everyone is just waiting to be seated at a Chinese Restaurant? It's a brilliant mix of simplicity and humour that makes Seinfeld stand out from the rest.

Here’s a tiny blooper for you to judge it yourself..
