Internet Convinience Vs Productivity

“But first let me take a selfie” this song by the Chainsmokers literally defines the millennials preferences.

From oral communication to writing letters to sending messages, humans have tremendously evolved and so have the ways of our lives. Gone are the days when you would visit somebody to see how they’re doing, now all you have to do is facetime or WhatsApp wishing a ‘get well soon’ with hundreds of emoticons.

Dining isn’t about the food or satisfying the grumbling stomach, but rather how aesthetic our Instagram feed would look or how those filters would do justice to the portraits of us in the restaurant. You don’t have to visit a library or do an extensive research to get an article done, relax… you have a kindle, or better, you could just google anything at your fingertips.

As we are evolving we are limiting our creativity, productivity and hindering our growth. We are forgetting the reason why we have what we do and focusing on what we can attain. The whole concept of social media which was supposed to connect us to the world or rather the universe, is now used to send a text across the room, because we can’t walk ourselves to the other side of the room. Internet wasn’t created to bound us to the lazy beings we have turned ourselves into. Communication has been replaced by entertainment. Physical human touch by emoticons.

Memes becoming the soul reason for our existence and the ones who tag us in memes turning into our utmost companions, who we assume would fight storms and disasters to protect us and make us happy. Yes, that’s what we have come to.

The shades in my rainbow ice-cream are more fascinating than gods artistic wonders of those immeasurable species above and beyond our imagination.

Social media is more about embracing the good side of our lives than reaching out to people, or bringing out the truth.

“the age of smartphones has left humans with such a short attention spans, even a goldfish can hold a thought for longer” writes Leon Watson of The Telegraph

‘Smartphones’ they say, are they really smart? Are they making us smart or are they smarter? That’s the question we need to ask ourselves. Who’s in charge of the power and who’s got the upper hand. A study states that the unrestricted usage of social media in work places is having a negative impact on workplace productivity as the employees spend more than 32 percent of their time on social media.

Google and YouTube have become our tutors. If it isn’t on the first page of google search, it doesn’t exist.

Internet, the magic machine, it is supposed to make things easier for us, not convenient. We have detached from the human emotions and it has sucked our ability to think beyond our limits set by us.

Just like a coin, there are two sides to everything and sure, social media and internet usage do have their perks. We can connect to people globally and receive and share information from any part of the world or know just about anything. But people these days don’t really use internet for its primary purpose and only focus on entertainment.

Excessive usage of internet can also lead to addictionand sometimes the damage done is beyond repair leading to a unhealthy lifestyle which can hinder our growth and development and make us incapable of basic life processes. We need to make wise decisions about how much time we spend and what we do on the internet to make the most of the available resources offered to us.
