New years are known to begin with resolutions. The do's and don't's of the year. In the first few days, they are followed religiously, to the latter! Then come the days after, less exercising, more eating, more spending, in fact, it seems like you're doing all the direct opposites of what's on your list. Well, it's a shame. Our New Year Resolutions don't get past January. There are people, who continue though, they push through till they finally achieve everything on their list. What's the difference?

All our life, so far as it has definite form, is but a mass of habits. William James.

William James, who spent much of his life trying to understand habits and their existence. He shows us that our life is but a mass of habits. Think about it. What do you do when you wake up? Check your phone, go for a run, pray or meditate? These things done in definite forms, gradually become what we do. You hear yourself say "I go for a run, when I wake up." You don't say, 'sometimes', you make it definite. This is why our habits define us.

New Year Resolutions? In other to achieve them, one has to remember that changing our habits is in fact what counts.

First, it's a decision. In wanting to change nasty habits, a decision, has to be made. Your brain takes note of this. It constantly reminds you of your decision. So when you want to over eat, or spend unnecessary, remembering your decision helps you decide against it.

Writing down your New Year Resolutions is one awesome thing. But most importantly, remember to break them down into bits. Bit by bit, till you attain your goal. Don't forget to put them up somewhere where you can see them. They reinfornce your decisions.

Breaking bad habits is really a struggle. Here's an idea. Try replacing bad ones with good ones. For example, you're trying to break the habit of eating junk food. Instead of completely stopping, which is a real struggle, you can replace it with healthier foods.

In forming new habits, one can add them to already formed ones. Imagine if you already have a habit of running, you can use the same opportunity to pray, or meditate or think. Old habits help us in forming new ones.

Take a look at your New Year's Resolution list. Change your perspective. Realise that marking everything is forming better habits. Have a great year!❤
