Poverty is the most vulnerable state for any person of being extremely poor. It is the extreme situation when a person feels a lack of essential, necessary items required to continue their livelihood such as shelter, adequate food, clothing, medicines, etc. Some of the common reasons for poverty are like overpopulation it is a human condition which brings despair, grief and pain in the social life

Causes of poverty

·Substandard Agricultural Infrastructure

·Unequal dispersal of assets

·Unemployment

·Inflation and a rise in price

·Flawed economic liberalization

Effects of poverty

·Illiteracy: poverty makes people unable to get a proper education because of the lack of money.

·Nutrition and diet: poverty causes insufficient availability of food and inadequate nutrition, which brings lots of lethal diseases and deficiency diseases.

·Child labor: it gives rise to the enormous level illiteracy as the future of the country gets involved in child labor at a little cost at an early age.

·Unemployment: unemployment causes poverty as it creates a lack of money which affects people's daily life. It forces people to live an unfulfilled life against their will.

·Social tensions: it creates social anxiety due to the income disparity between rich and poor.

·Housing problems: it creates a bad condition for people to live without a home on the footpath, roadside, other open places, many members in one room, etc.

·Diseases: it gives rise to the various epidemic diseases as people with a lack of money cannot maintain proper hygiene and sanitation. Also, they cannot afford a doctor for adequate treatment of any disease.

The steps that should be taken to fight against the evil of poverty in India are -:

1. The current population growth rate should be monitored by the implementation of policies and awareness promoting birth control.

2. Attempts should be made to increase the employment opportunities in the country, either by alluring more foreign investments or by uplifting self-employment schemes.

3. Practical actions should be taken to bridge the enormous gap that remains in the distribution in wealth i.e., income among different levels of the society.

4. Primary requirements of people for achieving a satisfactory quality of life like food items, clean drinking water should be available more readily. Improvement of the Subsidy rates on commodities and Public Distribution system should be made. The government should increase free high school education and an increased number of functioning health centers.
