• For those who answered Allah ' s call is bliss ; and for those who answered not His call, if they had all that is in the earth, and therewith the like thereof, they would proffer it as ransom. Such will have a woeful reckoning, and their habitation will be hell, a dire abode.
  जिन लोगों ने अपने रब का आमंत्रण स्वीकार कर लिया, उनके लिए अच्छा पुरस्कार है । रहे वे लोग जिन्होंने उसे स्वीकार नहीं किया यदि उनके पास वह सब कुछ हो जो धरती में हैं, बल्कि उसके साथ उतना और भी हो तो अपनी मुक्ति के लिए वे सब दे डालें । वही हैं, जिनका बुरा हिसाब होगा । उनका ठिकाना जहन्नम है और वह अत्यन्त बुरा विश्राम - स्थल है

• When you meet those who deny the truth in battle, strike them in the neck, and once they are defeated, make prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as an act of grace, or let them ransom until the war is finally over. Thus you shall do ; and if God had pleased, He would certainly have exacted retribution from them, but His purpose is to test some of you by means of others. As for those who are killed in God ' s cause, He will never let their deeds be in vain ;
  अतः जब इनकार करनेवालो से तुम्हारी मुठभेड़ हो तो गरदनें मारना है, यहाँ तक कि जब उन्हें अच्छी तरह कुचल दो तो बन्धनों में जकड़ो, फिर बाद में या तो एहसान करो या फ़िदया का मामला करो, यहाँ तक कि युद्ध अपने बोझ उतारकर रख दे । यह भली - भाँति समझ लो, यदि अल्लाह चाहे तो स्वयं उनसे निपट ले । किन्तु ताकि तुम्हारी एक - दूसरे की परीक्षा ले । और जो लोग अल्लाह के मार्ग में मारे जाते है उनके कर्म वह कदापि अकारथ न करेगा

• As for those who disbelieve, even if they owned everything on earth, and the like of it with it, and they offered it to ransom themselves from the torment of the Day of Resurrection, it will not be accepted from them. For them is a painful punishment.
  जिन लोगों ने इनकार किया यदि उनके पास वह सब कुछ हो जो सारी धरती में है और उतना ही उसके साथ भी हो कि वह उसे देकर क़ियामत के दिन की यातना से बच जाएँ ; तब भी उनकी ओर से यह सब दी जानेवाली वस्तुएँ स्वीकार न की जाएँगी । उनके लिए दुखद यातना ही है

• Even if every soul that has sinned possessed whatever is on the earth, it would surely offer it to ransom itself, and feel repentant on seeing the punishment. Yet the sentence would be passed with justice, and not one will be wronged.
  और जिस जिसने ज़ुल्म किया है अगर तमाम ख़ज़ाने जो जमीन में हैं उसे मिल जाएँ तो अपने गुनाह के बदले ज़रुर फिदया दे निकले और जब वह लोग अज़ाब को देखेगें तो इज़हारे निदामत करेगें और उनमें बाहम इन्साफ़ के साथ हुक्म दिया जाएगा और उन पर ज़र्रा बराबर ज़ुल्म न किया जाएगा

• If a wrong - doer had all that is in the earth he would surely offer it to ransom himself. When the wrong - doers perceive the chastisement, they will feel intense remorse in their hearts. But a judgement shall be made with full justice about them. They shall not be wronged.
  यदि प्रत्येक अत्याचारी व्यक्ति के पास वह सब कुछ हो जो धरती में है, तो वह अर्थदंड के रूप में उसे दे डाले । जब वे यातना को देखेंगे तो मन ही मन में पछताएँगे । उनके बीच न्यायपूर्वक फ़ैसला कर दिया जाएगा और उनपर कोई अत्याचार न होगा

• yet you murdered each other and forced a number of your people out of their homeland, helping each other to commit sin and to be hostile to one another. When you had expelled people from their homeland and later they had been made captives, you then paid their ransom. God forbade you to expel these people in the first place. Do you believe in one part of the Book and not in the other ? Those who behave in this way shall reap disgrace in this world and severe punishment on the Day of Resurrection. God is not unaware of things that you do.
  फिर तुम वही हो कि अपने लोगों की हत्या करते हो और अपने ही एक गिरोह के लोगों को उनकी बस्तियों से निकालते हो ; तुम गुनाह और ज़्यादती के साथ उनके विरुद्ध एक - दूसरे के पृष्ठपोषक बन जाते हो ; और यदि वे बन्दी बनकर तुम्हारे पास आते है, तो उनकी रिहाई के लिए फिद्ए का लेन - देन करते हो जबकि उनको उनके घरों से निकालना ही तुम पर हराम था, तो क्या तुम किताब के एक हिस्से को मानते हो और एक को नहीं मानते ? फिर तुममें जो ऐसा करें उसका बदला इसके सिवा और क्या हो सकता है कि सांसारिक जीवन में अपमान हो ? और क़यामत के दिन ऐसे लोगों को कठोर से कठोर यातना की ओर फेर दिया जाएगा । अल्लाह उससे बेखबर नहीं है जो कुछ तुम कर रहे हो

• If every soul that has done evil possessed all that is in the earth, he would offer it for his ransom ; and they will be secretly remorseful when they see the chastisement, and justly the issue is decided between them, and they are not wronged.
  यदि प्रत्येक अत्याचारी व्यक्ति के पास वह सब कुछ हो जो धरती में है, तो वह अर्थदंड के रूप में उसे दे डाले । जब वे यातना को देखेंगे तो मन ही मन में पछताएँगे । उनके बीच न्यायपूर्वक फ़ैसला कर दिया जाएगा और उनपर कोई अत्याचार न होगा

• From those who deny and die disbelieving will never be accepted an earthful of gold if proferred by them as ransom. For them is grievous punishment, and none will help them.
  बेशक जिन लोगों ने कुफ़्र इख्तियार किया और कुफ़्र की हालत में मर गये तो अगरचे इतना सोना भी किसी की गुलू ख़लासी में दिया जाए कि ज़मीन भर जाए तो भी हरगिज़ न कुबूल किया जाएगा यही लोग हैं जिनके लिए दर्दनाक अज़ाब होगा और उनका कोई मददगार भी न होगा

• Righteousness is not whether you face towards the east or the west. But righteousness is to believe in Allah and the Last Day, in the angels and the Book, and the Prophets, and to give wealth however cherished, to kinsmen, to the orphans, to the needy, to the destitute traveler, and to the beggars, and to ransom the slave ; who establish their prayers and pay the obligatory charity ; who are true to their promise when they have promised. Who are patient in misfortune and hardship and during the time of courage. Such are the truthful ; such are the cautious.
  नेकी केवल यह नहीं है कि तुम अपने मुँह पूरब और पश्चिम की ओर कर लो, बल्कि नेकी तो उसकी नेकी है जो अल्लाह अन्तिम दिन, फ़रिश्तों, किताब और नबियों पर ईमान लाया और माल, उसके प्रति प्रेम के बावजूद नातेदारों, अनाथों, मुहताजों, मुसाफ़िरों और माँगनेवालों को दिया और गर्दनें छुड़ाने में भी, और नमाज़ क़ायम की और ज़कात दी और अपने वचन को ऐसे लोग पूरा करनेवाले है जब वचन दें ; और तंगी और विशेष रूप से शारीरिक कष्टों में और लड़ाई के समय में जमनेवाले हैं, तो ऐसे ही लोग है जो सच्चे सिद्ध हुए और वही लोग डर रखनेवाले हैं

• As for unbelievers, if they possess the riches of the whole earth, and two times more, and offer it as ransom for release from the torments of the Day of Resurrection, it will not be accepted from them, and their punishment will surely be painful.
  जिन लोगों ने इनकार किया यदि उनके पास वह सब कुछ हो जो सारी धरती में है और उतना ही उसके साथ भी हो कि वह उसे देकर क़ियामत के दिन की यातना से बच जाएँ ; तब भी उनकी ओर से यह सब दी जानेवाली वस्तुएँ स्वीकार न की जाएँगी । उनके लिए दुखद यातना ही है
