  फिर इस शोक के पश्चात उसने तुमपर एक शान्ति उतारी - एक निद्रा, जो तुममें से कुछ लोगों को घेर रही थी और कुछ लोग ऐसे भी थे जिन्हें अपने प्राणों की चिन्ता थी । वे अल्लाह के विषय में ऐसा ख़याल कर रहे थे, जो सत्य के सर्वथा प्रतिकूल, अज्ञान का ख़याल था । वे कहते थे," इन मामलों में क्या हमारा भी कुछ अधिकार है ?" कह दो," मामले तो सबके सब अल्लाह के हैं ।" वे जो कुछ अपने दिलों में छिपाए रखते है, तुमपर ज़ाहिर नहीं करते । कहते है," यदि इस मामले में हमारा भी कुछ अधिकार होता तो हम यहाँ मारे न जाते ।" कह दो," यदि तुम अपने घरों में भी होते, तो भी जिन लोगों का क़त्ल होना तय था, वे निकलकर अपने अन्तिम शयन - स्थलों कर पहुँचकर रहते ।" और यह इसलिए भी था कि जो कुछ तुम्हारे सीनों में है, अल्लाह उसे परख ले और जो कुछ तुम्हारे दिलों में है उसे साफ़ कर दे । और अल्लाह दिलों का हाल भली - भाँति जानता है

  फिर ख़ुदा ने इस रंज के बाद तुमपर इत्मिनान की हालत तारी की कि तुममें से एक गिरोह का ख़ूब गहरी नींद आ गयी और एक गिरोह जिनको उस वक्त भी जान के लाले पड़े थे ख़ुदा के साथ ज़मानाए जिहालत की ऐसी बदगुमानियॉ करने लगे और कहने लगे भला क्या ये अम्र कुछ भी हमारे इख्तियार में है कह दो कि हर अम्र का इख्तियार ख़ुदा ही को है ये अपने दिलों में ऐसी बातें छिपाए हुए हैं जो तुमसे ज़ाहिर नहीं करते कहते हैं कि इस अम्र में हमारा कुछ इख़्तियार होता तो हम यहॉ मारे न जाते कह दो कि तुम अपने घरों में रहते तो जिन जिन की तकदीर में लड़के मर जाना लिखा था वह अपने निकल निकल के अपने मरने की जगह ज़रूर आ जाते और ताकि जो कुछ तुम्हारे दिल में है उसका इम्तिहान कर दे और ख़ुदा तो दिलों के राज़ खूब जानता है

  यह करो जबकि वह अपनी ओर से चैन प्रदान कर तुम्हें ऊँघ से ढँक रहा था और वह आकाश से तुमपर पानी बरसा रहा था, ताकि उसके द्वारा तुम्हें अच्छी तरह पाक करे और शैतान की गन्दगी तुमसे दूर करे और तुम्हारे दिलों को मज़बूत करे और उसके द्वारा तुम्हारे क़दमों को जमा दे
