Introduction
Initially meant to cover our bodies….we as a society have gone ahead and used it to determine various other parameters. We judge a person’s character, a person’s morals, their upbringing and what not!
What is the Fuss all About?
Well as per common logic and understanding clothes are meant to protect ourselves from weather conditions like heat, rain, wind while also adhering to the decency code of the society. It was all about comfort and protection. However the length and style of the garment chosen has become a big issue. It is an even bigger issue in case of girls and women as the short length of the dress not only degrades their character but also is the reason for crime against women like rapes and molestation. However as per statistics it is not just the girl in shorts or women in short dresses that get raped but also 6- month old baby girl wrapped in sheets and a 60 year old woman clad in a saree who face molestation or worse are raped! Hence blaming the dress or its length makes no sense at all!
Sadly when we talk of education, equality and a lot more of big terms; we still haven’t been able to break through the barriers of small mindedness! The willingness to accept change and allowing ourselves to choose something as basic as what to wear still raises eyebrows in the society ; leaving people quick to judge!
Conclusion
It is important to move with times and constantly upgrade our thinking to evolve as human beings. Everybody is entitled to choose and judging the people on the choice they make isn’t fair! It is the personality, achievements, hard work and traits of a person that define them and not the length/style of the dress. It is time to break the shackles of the narrow mind and allow change in mindsets. Also it is now we should completely adhere to- LIVE & LET LIVE!!!
