Summer Vacation always precedes with a long list of to-do’s and further planning. The Final examinations are the peak level of brain-storming and also the period of realising the importance of leisure or spare time. But ironically, the first vacation day itself begins with a long one month time-off. I am sure that most of the students of my age specifically, follow this same rhythm of living an extravagant Digital Life every vacation. So did I, until the time when my region was cut off from internet connection or any mobile for more than 84 hours and guess what, It was the best part!
It seems nearly impossible to have lived 4 days without Internet or text message services, but through this article I would like to share instead 5 ways of how I chose to spend this vacation having fun as well as putting on essential productivity.
1.LIVE EVERY MOMENT
This is one of the most commonly used phrase. Such cliché words are mostly found in the works of philosophical writers or during pep talk. Living every moment or better said as Carpe Diem, must be the primary motive that is developed from the early years. To learn and To Teach about living every fullest moment is easy said but rough to do. ‘Live as if you were to die tomorrow’ and count your happiness instead of doubts.
Breathe in the goodness in you and the world around, and let it detoxify your vibe.
2.MEET FAMILIAR FACES
Academic year is filled with hustle-bustle and it limits our socialisation with people beyond the pedagogical lines. This ‘familiar-exclusion’ runs to its extreme as we physically start living hundreds or even miles apart.
Vacation is much more than staring at our digital displays. For the mind to feel afresh, it requires energy and newness. One of the ways to gain this vigour towards personal life is through experiences and being a patient listener.
·Observe and appreciate the little and huge efforts made by the ‘familiar ones’.
·Spend a quality time in knowing about a life other than yours.
·Spend time in holding and rubbing your grandparents’ fingers.
·Hug your dad and look at the universe into your mother’s eyes.
3.READ, READ AND READ
I know that it sounds absolutely ‘nerd-ish’ to suggest anyone to read books during the only time one gets a real break. But if read with curiosity, every book carries a world of it’s own. It is similar to meeting a stranger on a random rainy day and getting to know about his/her life with a chai or coffee.
My biggest achievement of this 2019 Summer Vacation was being able to complete a 400 pages’ novel in 7 hours and 600 pages’ in a day (Also boasting fact is that I have already started the third one). For many it may seem as a simple regular aim to achieve, but for those with regular writer blocks and monotonous academics, it’s next to Obama’s visit to India.
Read and Highlight your favourite lines of the year, before it becomes a 2020 Resolution.
4.LISTEN TO 80 Songs
‘Here 80 is in numerical form and not as 80s’. Musical notes can always liven up any dull soul. Music and Magic are read as synonymous to each other.
Listen and explore these beautiful magic mantras in as many languages as you can and ‘spirit-ify your spotify’.
5.EXTRA POINT FOR EXTRAS OUT THERE
‘If hobbies can be subjective, so as this point’. Do what you love the most, not to become the best in it, but to enjoy it throughout. I shall not elaborate this point and leave it for all the readers to figure it out themselves. 😊
For me, I enjoy experimenting with colours and brush strokes. So I try my best to colour all the white canvases of the world.
Vacation should not only be a physical month-off , but an opportunity to mentally and spiritually rejuvenate yourself.
So Rest, Travel, Read, Listen, Write and Breathe.
