I don't think there remains any social media user who hasn't yet come across this heretic and confusing social media craze going around JCB diggers. The #JCBkiKhudai was a top trending hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and even YouTube.

I was also initially left to wonder. What the hell is it? I didn't find any political connection on a primary investigation, neither did it have any connection with any of the celebrity stuff. Not any incidental stuff too. What then?

So, I went rummaging through the internet to find out what it is that has taken the socials on fire, and ultimately reached a very humorous conclusion that compelled me to share my understanding of it.

First things first. What is JCB?

It stands for Joseph Cyril Bamford (Excavators Limited) - a Rochester, Staffordshire-based, British multinational vehicle company that makes heavy earthmovers, excavators, heavy tractors, military vehicles, and other such heavy vehicles, that are used for construction, heavy transportation, excavation, waste handling, and demolition purposes.

What is all the fuss about JCB?

Often mispronounced as JCP, or JCV, in India, the term “JCB” has become a misnomer for excavators, bulldozers, or practically any Yellow-coloured heavy vehicle. I have often seen and heard people telling, “I saw a Hitachi JCB near that construction site” when he actually meant he saw an excavator or bulldozer from Hitachi working at that particular site. The color sets it all for a majority of Indians.

The same Indians being extraneously curious about everything under the sun, never missed an opportunity to stand by and watch with enchanted eyes, the big JCBs working at the sites. The way they pierce through chunks of mud or soil, the way they smoothly dig up the dirt, the way they smoothly demolish a building, the way they sail through the road, past the minute other cars, all of these has been super-exciting for the Indians. They are the real-life ASMR thing for us.

Yes, sometime in the past I too liked to watch them work. Indians have always been enthralled by such kind of things and will continue to do so, without a doubt.

Now, coming to the main point. Suddenly, like Priya Varrier, our JCB Warriors also became an instant craze very recently, and what’s the practical or interesting reason behind it?

Nothing!

Tada!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you read it right, there is no intentional reason behind the sudden craze of this particular trend. The #JCBkiKhudai came up suddenly when netizens noticed how much Indians loved to see such machines work in the world. The videos on YouTube of JCBs working have millions of views. On Facebook, several videos, starring JCB diggers, had a huge number of views. Sarcastically, while we were enjoying this basically useless stuff, we were proving how much randomly jobless we people are. We can extract fun or rather let the fun be extracted from really anything. We can be attracted even by diggers working. We can make a huge crowd and block the road, just to see a big, yellow machine, pulling up dirt and mud and soil and just dumping it somewhere else.

The social media trend is fun indeed, but it calls for our introspection. We need to be careful about the subject behind which we are spending a big part of our time. Time is always a one-time-investment. Either you win it or lose it, there’s no withdrawing it.

When the internet has already occupied a big part of our lives, we need to censor our utilities and expenditures online.

Have Fun!
