From another enlightening session at the Jaipur literature festival- here are the take backs;

In a light-hearted conversation headed by Dr. Sharad Paul and Sanjoy. K.Roy, the many facets of genes and how they affect our lives were explained. He spoke of how our health ultimately depends on our lifestyle. Dr. Sharad started by talking about one of the issues humanity is grappling with- laziness. He said that laziness promotes sluggish genes, and we should get moving, at least for out brain’s sake. The more the inches increase in one’s waistline, the more the individual’s cognitive function reduces. He also stated that research shows that procrastination can be inherited, so you might want to watch out for the early signs in your family members!

Even on meeting the speaker after the session for book-signing, it was inspiring to observe how enthusiastic he was about science, a subject which has always fascinated me. He made a joke about orang- utans and explained everything with a pinch of humour.

The one take thing I would take away from this session would be that one’s karma can potently change one’s genes, which will ultimately shape our destiny.
