Just sit back and think how long has it been that we have seen a good Bollywood movie? The last movie that Bollywood can proudly show is "URI : the surgical strike" or maybe even Kesari. But what about the other movies that have not only failed the critics but also failed disastrously at the box office.

Movies like Ek ladki Ko dekha toh Aisa Laga and Badla came out in the theatres as something new and unique but couldn’t show its magic at the box office. Even though the stories were good, the plot developed rather slowly.

While such movies have shown that there might be a new hope for Bollywood to improve, the mediocre bollywood movies do not fail to pave their way on to the Big screens. Two such movies are Student of the year 2 and De de pyaar de.

1. Student of the year 2.

A sequel to the franchise that previously starred Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, SOTY 2 “isn’t unwatchable but is just unnecessary” as Rajeev Masand puts it. The plot line is a like a plethora of old famous movie plot lines. An elite school competes with a middle class school for a tournament, the hero is a part of the middle class school and wins the tournament at the end. It’s just a modernised version of Jo jeeta Wahi Sikandar. Two girls fight over the same man, the warmth of the lower class is shown in comparison to loneliness in upper class and other themes that have surprisingly not worn off by over usage.

The movie has Tiger Shroff’s abs, his dance, his stunts and his grim face acting that stays the same all throughout. Even though, the tournament in between 8 schools out of which, we know, at least 2 of them to be co-ed, there’s not even one woman who is shown to be participating in the tournament. The female characters(Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey) are reduced to Barbie dolls and are used only to flaunt starry clothes. The bad guy of the movie, Manav (played by Aditya Seal) also says in the movie that ifhe wins the trophy, he should also get Rohan's (Tiger) girlfriend. That’s exactly what’s happening in the movie, the women characters are used just to add beauty to the movie. Not even aspecial appearance from Will Smith could save the movie.

2. De de Pyaar de.

This Ajay Devgn starrer movie is an attempt to spread messages like Age difference shouldn’t be a barrier for love and encourages live-in relationships. The movie not only terribly fails to spread the message but also makes it a cringe worthy watch. The story is about a 50 year old Ashish(Ajay), who falls in love and lives in with his 24 year old girlfriend, Aisha (Rakul Preet). Ashish has been separated for last 18 years and decides to introduce Aisha to his family especially his wife(yeah, not ex-wife because they are not divorced till the end of the movie), Manju (Tabu) and his kids who are the same age as Aisha. Though it is a one time fun watch, the movie consists of forced humour and worse, forced chemistry. The romantic scenes between Ajay and Rakul are a whole new level of cringe. Though the idea of not having age as a barrier for love is showed in a positive way, we cannot help but think what is going to happen after the characters get married. He will be 65 years old till his kid joins secondary school and maybe even die before admitting the son in a college. Practically speaking, the age group between the characters is quite a lot. Though Tabu's character is the most sensible, she makes the mistake of convincing Aisha to marry Ashish. Mind you, one of the recurring dialogues of the movie is. “Jab ek baar sone se pyar nahi hota toh ek baar sone se vo pyaar kho kaise jaata hai?" This is the worst way anyone can justify cheating.
