I have lived in Hyderabad for the past 19 years and I cannot get over this city. Even after so many years of trying to explore it, there is always something more left to explore in this Nizam city. Hyderabad has a lot of epithets like the City of Nawabs, the City of Pearls and famously, the Biryani City.

The IT sector of the city is highly developed and is competing with Bangalore and Chennai to gain the crown of India's IT capital; Microsoft and Google have their Indian headquarters in Hyderabad only. Hyderabad and Secunderabad are twin cities separated by the Hussain Sagar Lake, but both have grown to become one big metropolis.

Hyderabad is known for so many things. Here are four things that Hyderabad is famous for.

1. The Weather.

Hyderabad ,right now, is burning with the summer heat. The temperatures range from 40-45 degree Celsius on an average summer afternoon and recently, it was recorded as the hottest place on Earth when the temperature hit 47.8 degrees Celsius in Mancherial District, Hyderabad. We are blessed with rains (non seasonal) that are either a drizzle or a downpour where it rains cats and dogs, there is no in between.

2. Tourist attractions

As it's land of Nawabs, there is a lot of heritage that they left behind. There are several monuments like Charminar, Golconda Fort, Qutub Shahi tombs, andMecca Masjid. There’s Chowmahala Palace and Falaknuma Palace which was once only a tourist attraction but now has become a restaurant and a banquet hall (Salman Khan’s sister’s wedding, remember?) Salarjung Museum and Birla museum are one of the most beautiful museums. While Salarjung museum has a collection of all the utensils and weapons of the Nizams, Birla Science museum is full of scientific inventions and apparatuses. Ramoji Film City is a must go place in Hyderabad as it is World’s Largest Film City complex that spreads across 2000 acres.

3. The slang

Hyderabad natives have a very interesting slang of Hindi called the “Hyderabadi Hindi”. It’s a mixture of Hindi and Urdu and has peculiar words that tickle the funny bone in every tourist. For example, the word “Baigan” in Hyderabadi means nonsense and not the vegetable. (Baigan ke baatan nakko karo). Well, there are two other Hyderabadi words in that sentence. Nakko means "don’t" in Hyderabadi and baatan is “Baatein”. In Hyderabadi, every plural word ends with “aan”. Surprisingly, even English words end with “aan”. For example, Bookan, Stillan, Phonan (Books, stills, phones).

4. The most important, FOOOOD!

Hyderabadi Biryani is World famous and we Hyderabadis can have biryani for breaking, lunch and dinner. The “Dum” biryani is famous for its rich spices and the meat that melts in your mouth. The perfect partner for the Biryani is “mirchi ka Salan”, a spicy curry made with spices and coconut. The Shahi Tukda made with Bread and Cream, is a heavenly dessert that belongs to the Nizami era. Hyderabad is well known for its kebabs, may it be Tunday Kebab, Boti kebab, Malai Kebab or Reshmi Kebab.
