“You are never a small kid anymore. It’s college, you are grown up. Behave like a matured citizen. This is the turning point of your life.” Have you ever heard these commentaries from elders? We feel college as a world full of freedom. Let’s move to my world.

Today, the first day of my college. It is not like other ordinary days which passes on, It’s a new beginning, new change and new opportunity. Creeping each step with thousands of exciting dreams. My first step, my mind says this is the place to enjoy and find lifelong friends. Let this step be the most memorable one. There comes a group of seniors, their eyes rolling towards me. Since I didn’t know they were seniors, I smiled at them ( A smile is the best makeup any girl can wear ). A guy from the gang pointed me and called me. As a funny girl, I went near them with a smiling face as if I knew them before. “Why do you smile? Are we jokers to make you laugh?”, They sounded. That moment all my dreams broke and I couldn’t utter a word. My perspective of college was different.

“She never wanted to make fun of you all “, came a voice from behind. I turned back out of curiosity, a first-year girl who raised her voice for me. They left me and ragged her instead. I met her in my class and came to know she was also from literature. I went near her and asked about the ragging. She explained it and said if we just lift our head up, we can solve most of the problems. I liked her character and wanted to be like her. Since there is a statement, “ Tell me who your friend is and I’ll tell you who you are” I started following her. Each day was of new knowledge, I learnt a lot from her day by day. By learning and trying to improve my character, I forgot to know about her.

Now she’s not in this living Earth. I see her daily through the stars, the one who turned me into a brave woman. She passed due to cancer, she never showed her sadness outside. Every time I think of her, I’m filled with a burning fire inside. Finding a friend is not a surprise but finding someone who teaches us to be brave and protect ourselves rather than protecting us when needed is a blessing. And I’m lucky I got her and she’ll always stay alive in me.
