King's Landing is a fictional place introduced in the famous Game of Thrones universe. It is the capital and the largest city in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. It is located on the east coast of Westeros and is surrounded by the Blackwater Bay on the north. The largest city in Westeros, it has a population of more than 500,000 people. It is the place where the famous Iron Throne resides, the seat of the King of the Andals and the First Men and the Protector of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. It also has the Red Keep, where the royal family lives.

It has a warm climate as it is located in the South of Westeros. It can offer one a rich lifestyle if you can afford it, otherwise one might end up rotting in the great slums of Flea Bottom. Being the capital, it is an overpopulated and dangerous place.

It was founded by King Aegon I Targaryen, and was ruled by the Targaryens until Robert's Rebellion. The city has occasionally suffered attacks, and the most notable was the civil war which arised during Robert's Rebellion. During the rebellion, King Aerys II Targaryen was betrayed by Lord Tywin Lannister of Casterly Rock and the city was sacked and the Iron Throne was offered to Robert as a sign of fealty.

Rulers

At the beginning of the series, the King of the Seven Kingdoms was Robert of House Baratheon, who got the Iron Throne after his rebellion against the Targaryens, who he presumed to have raped and murdered his betrothed Lyanna Stark. He was a good ruler in the beginning, but soon he passed all the work to his Hand Jon Arryn, and spent his time hunting and in pleasure houses.

After the death of his Hand Jon Arryn, he appointed his close friend Lord Eddard Stark as the Hand of the King. However, soon after, the King was murdered secretly by his wife and the Queen, Cersei Lannister. Before dying, he wrote a wish to make Eddard Stark the new King. However, Cersei declared Eddard as a traitor, and made her son, Joffery Baratheon sit on the Iron Throne, who was actually her brother Jamie Lannister's son but nobody knew about it, except Eddard Stark. After Joffrey sat on the iron throne, the War of the Five Kings began, which included Joffrey Baratheon, Robert's brother and the rightful heirs Stannis Baratheon and Renly Baratheon, King in the North Robb Stark and Lord of the Iron Islands, Balon Greyjoy.

Joffrey Baratheon was a cruel King and ruled for quite sometime, but was murdered by Lady Olenna of House Tyrell and Lord Petyr Baelish. After his death, Cersei's youngest son Tommen Baratheon was made the new King. However, Tommen Baratheon committed suicide after Cersei bombed the Sept of Baelor which killed his wife Lady Margaery. Also, her daughter Myrcella Baratheon was poisoned by the Lady of Dorne for revenge. After that, Cersei Lannister was made the new Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

In the meantime, Daenerys Targaryen, the last of the Targaryens, came to Westeros to claim the Iron Throne and attacked King's Landing and burned the entire city with her dragons and this lead to Cersei's death. Daenerys Targaryen was to be the new Queen, but before she could sit on the Iron Throne, she was murdered by Jon Snow, her lover, who killed her because she brutally killed thousands of innocents in King's Landing to get the Iron Throne. Following this, Jon Snow, who was actually a Targaryen, was sent to Castle Black by Daenerys' followers and Lord Brandon Stark became the new King of the Seven Kingdoms.
