…As soon as we finish one more chapter.
You must have read or at least probably heard of the famous novel series by Rick Riordan – “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”. Or the “Heroes of Olympus”, or “Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard”. Or “The Kane Chronicles”.
No?
Not even heard of these series titles? Ever? What are you even doing on this planet? Who are these people? Where do you even come from? Living in a secluded corner of a rathole, were you?
Just kidding.
So by now, you might have had a fair idea of how dear I hold these books to my heart. If not, let’s just say I can go ten hours straight reading these books non-stop in one sitting and still have it in me to go through all the seven humongous Harry Potter books with a nice big smile on my face as if I slept with a hanger in my mouth last night.
Yes, you read it right. I am a huge nerd. And I do not mean the “get the best score and top the class” kind of nerd (okay mayyybe, that could possibly be partly true. Or not). I mean the I am a serious “full-frame glasses and baggy clothed surrounded by novels all day” kind of nerd. And I love books. The same way my mom loves my dad and my sister loves her husband and my teacher loves chemistry enough to do his PhD and post-doc in it (seriously…who could possibly love that shit).
But let these issues not digress me from the topic at hand.
Now, most people have this perception that either you are a born bookworm, or a born gamer, or a born overachiever, and if a child shows a particular liking towards something, (s)he will continue to do so even in adulthood.
Well, let me take this opportunity to let you know that it is not so.
You can fall for books even in your 20s or 30s if you happen to stumble upon the right kind of books that match you frequency of liking and is engrossing enough for you to relieve the stress and burden of that monotonous nine-to-five job (and hats-off to you if you yourself are doing it. How do you even manage that thing?).
So that small surprise I expressed in the intro, that just goes to show how truly, madly, deeply I am in love with reading. Because reading gives me the adrenaline rush that a footballer gets with his football under his studs. Ask any bookworm and they will let you know the sense of freedom they experience from reading novels.
And novellas.
And fables.
And short stories.
And… well, you get the idea now.
