Aren't you the one whose forth most duty is to check your phone on bed after wake up ? Have I lost streak with someone ? I have lost followers on Instagram. Let me post the picture of the breakfast first. Why don't my fans are increasing on tiktok. Aren't these thoughts always came to your mind frequently all over the day? Let's think about the situation if your phone is kept away from you for a day. People, especially the youths spending their most of the time with the virtual world. Today, social media have become the most important part of life for young people. 90% of the young adults are on social sites. They spend 2-3 hours on social media without thinking about the harmful effects on their lives. They prefer texting or calling rather than face to face interaction.

Negative impacts

  1. Nowadays youths are too open on social media. They post their personal information to the public. These data may goes to the wrong hand or third parties. Security attacks such as hacking, identity theft, phishing scams and virus are common via social sites.

  2. Youth goes on depression, often feel isolated and disconnected from the real world due to excessive use of social media. Most of the cases came out with the reason of less followers, less no. of likes, cyber bullying, fake friends, etc on internet.

  3. Rumors spread more fastly on social media, led to misinformation to the public. They believe much more on social media than the real world.

  4. It has been said Too much of one thing, good for nothing. Youths are so much obsessed with the phone now that they don't even know what is going on around their surrounding. They are addicted to the phone.

  5. Sticking to the phone for long hours is not good for mental and physical health. Anxiety disorder, less or no sleep, low eyesight are the common problems arises due to social media. Internet has made our lifestyle sendentary so obesity is obvious among the youths.

  6. Whatever is shown on social media is taken seriously by the youth. They easily get attracted by the things shown on them and tries to have that. For that they spend a lot of money to show off on social media. Sometimes they goes to the wrong path, thinking that it is on trend. Social media glamorizes the usage of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, causes our young generation to get addicted with them.

Apart from all this, there are also some positive impact of social media on youths. They always get connected to their loved ones irrespective of the distance between them. They easily collaborate with their teachers and mentor for resolving any query or issue at any time. They can show up their talent to the world through it. There are various sites providing them job opportunities.

Social media has become important for daily updates, to remain connected with friends and family, to share knowledge. But don't make it a necessity of life. Don't be so obsessed with it so that you lost youself. You have to strike a balance between virtual and the real world.
