The fact cannot be denied that old era was the best era of Bollywood films. A lot more meaningful and theme-based movies were released in the 60s,70s,80s and 90s.This is due to which this era was the only era to be privileged and be crowned with the title of golden era.

.Mother India (1957)- How a wife, a mother fights through the tragedies she is struck by.

.Guide (1965)- A Guide falls in love with a married woman, and helps her rediscover her love for dance. Excellent acting by Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman, a movie that had made many Indians cry and be proud at the same time.

.Mughal-E-Azam (1960)- Everyone knows the story of Salim and Anarkali, this one is a masterpiece of Madhubala and Dilip Kumar. A 16th century prince falls in love with a court dancer and battles with his emperor father. Directed by Mr K. Asif, it’s an absolute masterpiece and one of a kind movie.

.Bandani-A female centric movie, one of the rare ones in Indian movies, Bandini revolves around Kalyani or Bandini, literally meaning imprisoned. It is also the only film to have depicted the sacrifice made by ordinary rural women during the Indian Independence Struggle.

.Amar Akbar Anthony-Another masterpiece by the angry young man Amitabh Bachchan. The story revolves around three brothers who were separated and destiny had other plans for them. This movie focused on the brotherhood of all the religions and seeing the essential unity of the religions rather than focusing on their differences.

.Sholay- “kitne aadmi they?”This dialogue of Gabbar Singh kept echoing in my ears while writing this answer. The plot of this story is too cool to be disclosed. Favourite of every movie fanatic.

.Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)- Two friends, attempting to start-up their own photo studio, come across shady dealings, corruption and murder, and must fight to bring the guilty to light. Directed by Kundan Shah and starring Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Bhakti Barve, Satish Shah its been one of the most compelling plots with award winning script and acting.

.Gol Maal (1979)- Yes, I know it’s not 'pre-1970' movie but it’s my favourite in the comedy genre! The story, plot, direction and the amazing Amol Palekar-Utpal Dutt duo take the movie to whole other level! The constant 'Sir' and 'Issshhh' adds to the comic flavour of the movie.

I am no cinema geek/expert to suggest movies on the basis of cinematography or direction, but yes, I can definitely say one thing that these old movies are extremely refreshing and all time hits that people were crazy fans of once upon a time.
