THE ANNUAL COST OF CYBER CRIME  TO THE GLOBAL ECONOMY IS MORE THAN $ 4 BILLION

Today’s era is the cyber age. Every person at present has at least a laptop and four to five mobile phones at home. But the technology, being a boon on one side also acts as the curse on the other. The culprits also have started using advanced technologies for the commission of crimes , with the advancement of resources being available.

The cyber crimes have reacheda significant number and also this sector of crime has lead to major increment in its rate in the list of the prevailing crimes. Just a click on a pop up ,present on your computer screen, can make you loose lakhs present in your accountand you won’t even be able to know that before their task isn’t complete. Various cyber crimes prevailing includes financial fraud crimes , cyber terrorism , cyber extortion , online harassment and drug traffickingetc.The cyber crimes mostly are done for monetary reasons but at times they even involve revengeful actions. The revengeful actions that add on to the severity of the cyber crimes , include harassment on internet by revenge pornography. The easiest targets of revengebecomes the child pornography, spoiling the child’s future.

To the surprise, there is even a special dark net market created for the purchase and buying of drugs online. The market place is a home to many illegal purposes taking place on web. The list of cases including cyber crime is never ending, but a few cases that shocked all of us included ,the MOD . MOD was a hacking groupthat stole the passwords and technical data from nynex, pacific bell. The loss was so severe that it costed the company the sufferage of $370000.

The various ways to tackle the loss includes the incrementin the penalties related to cyber crime, increasing awareness among people. There should be specific wing of intelligence agency in each corporate sector ,so as to prevent the damage. Awareness should be inculcated in people so that they act beforehand and prevent the loss that wouldcome along. It is our responsibility to stop the crime beforehand. Various sections that are reserved by the constitution of India are section 65-67 and 71-73 that are included in the cyber security measures. Cyber crime had reached to such an extent that there is a cyber crime occurring in every 10 minutes in the country.

Other ways to tackle cyber crime includes increase in the way of cyber security i.e. , the use of inter related systems of computers. Various ways of cyber security includes the application security, information security, operational security, network security, mobile security, identity management and a lots more.The only way to stop cyber crimes is to make people aware about the same.
