It’s the epic zombie sequel that can even give you nightmares and will likely never see the light of day , so what would David Fincher's  World War Z have been about? World War Z is based on the novel by author Max Brooks, which details the effect of a borderline apocalyptic war between the Dead and the living.

The  ensemble supporting cast includes Mirelle Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Fana Mokoena, David Morse, Peter Capaldi, Ruth Negga , and David Andrews.

The story followed Brad Pitt’s character on a mad dash across the globe to trace a cure for a sudden zombie outbreak. The movie received positive reviewers for Brad Pitt’s performance and a realistic revival of the zombie genre, but received certain criticism for the anti-climax and outdated CGI. Regardless, the film was a commercial success, grossing over $540M against a production budget $190M. Majorly being a highly successful movie, a sequel was announced shortly after its release.

David Fincher was officially signed in 2017 and the project spent over a year in development while the script was being written. By late 2018, all signs painted to World War Z 2 starting production ,only for PARAMOUNT to cancel it in Feb 2019 with the budget and China banning

movies featuring zombies being cited as the two biggest factors.

However, Variety caught up with producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner ,who revealed that  not only are Pitt and Fincher still attached, but World war Z 2 filming had set to begin in June 2019.That makes sense with Fincher’s schedule-Mindhunter season 2 was shooting through December.  Kleiner added that they would continue to work with Kelly on the World war Z sequel’s script to get it right, and it’s so far unclear what kind of story is going to be told with Pitt’s character.

Last year, it was heard that the project was completely dead in the water at paramount after several months of promising developments. Brad Pitt was set to reprise his role in the zombie flick, with his collaborator David Fincher (Fight Club,  Se7en) on board to direct. Then, unceremoniously the studio shut it down.

During a recent interview, the producing duo was asked about the possibility of World War Z 2. While Kleiner couldn’t provide any concrete details, he did offer an encouraging response, signalling that they hadn’t given on it yet. Here’s what he had to say.

“Someday. We love Max Brooks’ book.

We love the universe in it. It doesn’t feel

like the World War Z is done and over

with”

Speaking further about the broader challenges of producing, Jeremy Kleiner had

this to say.

“The pace of change is so quick that

dogmas about what works and what the

market is and all the bedrocks of

certainty are hard to come by. You’re

relying on resourcefulness, on instinct,

on relationships, on being nimble, being

flexible, not being dogmatic. And that

can be challenging. But in that is a lot of

opportunity,”

It’s good to hear for fans like us, the makers of the film talking about making it a reality someday.

It might take a long time or even if we get to see this project. We’d love to see Fincher and Pitt team up again for this long-awaited project.

It’s looks like there is still a possibility of the sequel being lifted off in the ground and made into reality. Let’s just cross our fingers and hope for the best.
