To my thirty-year-old self,

Hi Bud, so you have made it that far. You know what, I’m proud. I don’t know what consequences my mistakes have yielded, but I apologize. I hope you don’t regret.

But there are a few reminders. Few things that with time, you might have forgotten but you should not.

First, I don’t want you to be the forty-year-old grumpy woman, who does nothing but complain. No matter what happens, don’t change. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Don’t let the world overpower you. Be brave. Be the best version of you.

Don’t forget how you decided to be the best parent you could be when you were eighteen. You have to tell them that you love them, care for them and don’t clutch them to your side. And don’t ever doubt yourself at being a supportive and understanding partner. You are the best, for whoever deserves you.

Don’t procrastinate. But also, don’t let all the worldly responsibilities and all the work, steal away your time for your own self. Go watch Harry Potter and Iron Man again and again, because that is you. Just because you are grown up, doesn’t mean you cannot let yourself ponder around in the thoughts of a fictional world.

I know you have seen a lot of life, you know a lot of things. But let me remind you, you never know everything. At times you just have to keep rolling with whatever is coming up., process it in and keep moving on. The world is not a wish-granting factory.

And go out, eat French fries and soft drinks and devour on cheese and mayonnaise. You don’t need to worry about extra carbs and the love handles you’re getting and the little black dress that you won’t fit into. You are still beautiful. Own it with a hair flip. Just be happy. It’s not as easy as it sounds. But, I hope you choose to be happy. You don’t have to panic always.

You are incredible. And I look forward to being the person you are.

Yours truely,
Nineteen-year-old toddler self
