Chaat is the lifeline of any Indian. If you’re not familiar with this term let me tell you what it is. Chaat is a variety of street food, consisting of bhel, Pani Puri, Sev Puri and much more! Just the mention of this is enough to get any man’s mouthwatering. So, let’s take a look at some delicious chaat items!
This is one of the most loved chaats. It is named differently all across India. ‘Gol gappas’ in Delhi, ‘Puchka’ in Kolkata, ‘Pakodi’ in Gujrat. It consists of round hollow puri which is filled with a mixture of flavoured water made of mint and chillies, sweet tamarind chutney along with either yellow peas or green moong. It is thoroughly enjoyed by people of all ages.
This is a mixture of rice puffs, sev, farshan, chopped tomatoes, onions, potatoes, all mixed together with spicy mint chutney and sweet tamarind chutney. It is garnished with a squeeze of lemon, some coriander, and a puri. This is a go-to snack for anyone who wants a quick bite to eat.
This is a northern delicacy, made using Papdi or fried crispy, chickpeas, potatoes, tomatoes and onions all chopped, both the chutneys along with curd, coriander, and sev. It is very simple to make at home too once you have all the ingredients.
Ragada Pattice is quite commonly found on the streets of Mumbai, Delhi, and Lucknow. It is mainly made up of two things- Aloo Tikki and Ragada. Aloo Tikki is made from mashing boiled potatoes and seasoning them, then making round cutlets of it and shallow frying them. Ragada is made from yellow peas. They are boiled and cooked, and then made into a curry of sorts. Then it is topped with chutneys, chopped tomatoes, onions, raw mango along with a squeeze of lemon and some coriander. Ta-Da! Your chaat is ready!
Another chaat delicacy that will make you drool is Dahi Puri. It is made using the round puris and can be made using both potatoes and yellow peas. Then both the mint and chilli chutney, as well as tamarind chutney, is added. The whole dish is filled with curd and a pinch of chaat is added throughout. It is topped with sev, coriander and friend chana dal. It is a very filling dish and quite refreshing as well.
