Laws catch flies but let Hornets go free.

Laws lay the foundation of mankind. A person has some rules and regulations in his life to live a disciplined life. On a national level, a country also formulates the Constitution for the betterment of the people. Are these laws really protecting us or just a ray of hope in our lives? There are more doubtful questions which surround us daily.

The statue of Lady Justice in India is the symbol of integrity and righteousness. The Goddess of Justice is carrying a sword, scale for weighing and wears a blindfold. It is ironical that the court wants an eye witness as proof to the crime committed, the Goddess is blindfolded. The current scenario of the judiciary is diseased. Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. In 98% of the cases, the criminal is an acquaintance of the victim. The crimes are so badly increasing that the foreign countries have issued travel advisories to the women travellers.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

People spend their whole life in getting justice. Today, about 3.3 crore cases are pending for proceedings. The judicial system is lacking in its responsibilities.

The greatest problem is of corruption within the judicial administration. The officers and powerful people corrupt the whole system. Also, the judiciary has no interactions with the common people. If there would be no contact with the general public, how will they ever get to know the need for changes in the system? During the creation of the Constitution (1940-1950s), the people were also included. The bills were printed in the newspapers so that it could reach to the locals too.

Many bills are still pending in the Parliament which are not even taken into consideration. Reforming this blindfolded justice is the need of the hour.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

Indeed, if justice is delayed, it is almost denied by the government. Why not hang a juvenile who has crossed all limits of insanity by committing a crime? He is not a child anymore but a criminal who has destroyed many lives.

We are following the oldest judiciary system. It should be understood that with the passage of time, some things need to be changed. Our system should be more rigid to the convicted. It should set an example to the whole world. The laws and decisions should be one step ahead of the crimes. Only then the country will develop socially, economically and politically.
