If you've seen one city slum, you've seen them all.

Slums are the squalid and overcrowded urban street or district inhabited by very poor people. People live a life of misery in slums. Dharavi is Asia’s largest slum situated in Mumbai. There are lakhs and crores of people leading a life they don't deserve at all. A city which awakes a hope of better life and fulfilment of dreams throws people into these slums. City lights are keeping their life in darkness. A city is a heaven with all facilities while a slum is lacking in everything. People migrate from rural to urban areas in search of job opportunities and a better life. Due to overpopulation and unavailability of space in the city life, these people make their temporary huts. After some time, it develops as a slum.

People live in absurd poverty leading their life in unorganized sectors of the economy which increases the risk of crimes, alcoholism and vandalism. Mostly, people are unemployed and in crave of finding a means to earn a livelihood, they hold the wrong track.

Secondly, people in slum areas live in unhygienic and dingy houses. Young kids do ragpicking in the heaps of garbage. It is their age to go to school but they are compelled to live it due to corrupt and mismanaged government and the unaware public in their surroundings. Even today, a child is wasting his childhood working in a dark factory in fear in spite of going to school to make a bright future.

There is a major problem of housing in slum areas. People don't get proper facilities at the time. There is hardly any facility of safe drinking water in slum areas. They don't have to assess to better medical treatment. There is always a risk of spreading epidemics in slum areas.

God is in the slums, in the cardboard boxes where the poor play house. God is in the silence of a mother who has infected her child with a virus that will end both their lives. God is in the cries heard under the rubble of war. God is in the debris of wasted opportunity and lives.

The places like slums are created due to the loopholes in our system. The cities which promise for a better life and a bright future of people, throw them into the garbage i.e., the slums. These people have lost all their hopes in goodness. India is ahead in the race of development. These slums are not mere places, these are the danger signs of stagnancy.
