Living in 21st century, the social media becomes an integral part of our lives. Modern society becomes more and more obsessed with smartphones and ipads. The way of interacting with the world has been shaped differently by the presence of social media. But does these interactions in terms of whatsapp, facebook weaken the real life interactions?

Though the effect of adaptation of technology depends on how we use it, the obsession with this virtual world causes acute depression and anxiety. Today, we have thousands of friends and followers on a different website. But can we call them a friend? Just because they tag us in videos, memes or even in meaningless jokes? Or just because the hit the like button in our posts? Or comments on them? With the billions of registrations in different sites, are we becoming social?

We all can guaranty that in our friendliest we all have 50% people whom we even never chatted! Maybe those chat boxes are just opened to wish happy new year” or “Merry Christmas”. People are getting terribly addicted to the screens. Though it helps to be in touch with the near ones most of us think the virtual world is our home. We even get dressed up for a party just not to enjoy the ambiance or the moment, we are busy with our selfies, hashtag posts all the time! People are starting to believe that being on 24×7 on the internet makes them connected to the world. Can we remember when the last time we wish someone on their birthday? Everything is just done just be a Facebook post or an emoji wish on the WhatsApp. But the most sarcastic thing is that, these issues are so common that we hardly notice them. These are just very few example of how unsocial we have become just to maintain our “social media life”!

We even paused between a real-life conversation just to reply or to check notifications. What message does it convey? That the people in front of me is less important than my own virtual world? Tragically, we are becoming accustomed to this interruptions. Our real-life relationships; hang out with our friends, outing with family all are evaluating on the count of likes. Social media build a barrier within the people. Today's teenagers, adults even children are developing a habit of self-obsession in terms of being popular in our so-called social life. Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp replaces the one to one real conversation. Finally, at the end, we can just say, though the idea of social networking is supposed to make us connected , now its for us to decide which connectivity really matters to us. Real or virtual….
