These hallways will always have mirrors
But their reflections can often deceive
Because no matter what images they hold
It really depends on what you perceive
Each mirror you look into, you start to see
That the longer you stare, the reflection grows deep
And though this hallway is lit quite well
Your reflection seems dark and your mind starts to yell
Different mirrors, different emotions
Both good and bad
All these thought commotions
On the experiences you've had
But what's the point of stopping and looking when all it does is take up time?
When it makes you feel like all your short comings are somehow gross, intentional crimes
So dare to walk right past these mirrors
For they are nothing more than cruel deceivers
Choose to have faith in yourself and not in your reflections
Simply love who you are
With all your imperfections.
Throughout our lives, we’ve all got mirrors. Your mirrors can be other people’s opinions or old photos. It can be text messages or your popularity, criticism on your career choices, personality or decisions. No matter what your mirrors are, they can deceive you. What you perceive is often different from the truth. The longer you focus on these mirrors, the darker it gets. You feel insecure or guilty. You beat yourself up over how you could’ve done better. They try to convince you that you aren’t enough. That you’re doing something wrong. Mirrors may try to make you relive the past you have just moved on from. They may be literal mirrors, lying to you that you’re not beautiful. We tend to only notice the negative in our reflections. Though we cannot avoid the mirrors, we can choose to walk past them. These hallways will always have mirrors but that doesn’t mean we stop and look at each one. We’re only wasting our time. We’ve got to keep going, trusting in something greater. Not the images these mirrors hold or the reflections we perceive. You may have fallen, we all make mistakes but that is no excuse to let yourself think that you don’t deserve another chance. Choose to love yourself and your flaws. No matter what others say, you were fearfully and wonderfully made. So, don’t believe your intricate design is trash just because of some wrong perceptions or critique. Love yourself and forgive yourself for your missteps. You cannot be perfect but you can love yourself enough to ignore your mirrors' deceptions.
