Do we really need the government to tell us what is right and wrong for us? Do we need a censor board to decide what we can watch and what we cannot?

In a country like India where an 18 year old and above is granted the right to vote and choose the future of India but at the same time is denied the right to choose what he or she can watch. In a democractic country like India where the constitution grants us the right to freedom of speech and expression but at the same time the government infringes such rights by censoring the news. In countries like Azerbaijan and Myanmar where the media is completely under the control of the government this deprives the public of information related to political and social issue. It is been used by powerful and influential people to hide vital information which can harm their reputation in the eyes of the society and reveal their wrong doings. A group of five to ten people making decisons for the thousands out there doesn't seem fair enough when it comes to difffernt forms of arts because one's right is another's wrong and vice versa. Just because a bunch of people do not like certain things that doesn't give them right to ban things for everyone because eveyone's perceptive and beliefs are different. It has its set of loopholes in the enforcement which makes it ineffective and easy to use as a tool to manipulate and gain control over people.

One of the main reasons behind censorship is the children falling into the cluches of bad influence and getting deviated. It's in human nature that when they kept in the dark, often curosity tends to get the best of them causing them to break rules and getting their hands on the forbidden content and in the era of internet and technology its not proven to be hard to do so. In this process the kid is more likely to get influnced by bad things because they do not know what is right and what is wrong for them and whom to discuss this with. Instead of hiding things from children the parents need to take initiative and educate their childern about such things. The governmant need not act like a parent to the children, it is the parent's job to do so.

If a warning on a cigarette box could not stop a person from smoking, even after knowing the harmful side effects of drugs has not stopped its consumption completely then blurring or cutting down scenes from a movie is not going to do any good either .

However every coin has two sides and there are a few positive points about censorship which can not be neglected like the segregation of the movie into U/A and A/A which warns the public about the content in the movie beforehand. Over the years censorship has prevented certain groups, religious sectors and people from getting offended and it has also stopped from airing too much of voilence which can cause a public unrest. It has also stopped public from gaining access to information than can put the country and it's people in danger.

To conclude, censorship is a very powerful tool which needs to be under control for giving justice to people's ideology and perspective but at the same time provide them safety when needed without taking away their basic rights to make their own decisons.
