Our world is darkened by sorrow and tear,

Violence, hatred and fear,

Untold ease, misery, hunger and pain,

Innocent lives cry in vain.

Our world is crowded with sadness and gloom,

Justice and truth have no room,

Bombs are exploding, people are dying,

Crumbled our world, there it's lying.

Real violence

Violence depicted can be either real or artificially created. Real violence is the type that is reported/broadcast/telecast through news reports. Journalists report on riots, shooting and bombings around the globe at great personal risk. The purpose of these broadcasts is to inform people worldwide so that relevant action can be taken.

Fiction writers say that it is real life violence such as fires, robberies, terrorism and accidents which appear on TV, that is more harmful. Researchers say daily pressures of modern life are provoking people to outbursts of anger and violence. Rampant dishonest, corruption and bribery are everywhere. Criminalisation of politics, adulterated consumer goods, bandhs, hartals! No one wants to work. Everyone wants more than their salary.

Reel Violence

• Are the ghastly violent scenes by the Mafia and the various killings necessary in movies?

• Are the passionate scenes in the present - day movies really necessary?

• If essential, how much detail is necessary to show the cruelty of the mafia or the attraction between people in a romantic movie?

Although mafia violence is real in cities as well as in villages, the depiction of various methods of killing a person can be avoided by the Directors and Script writers. Without the ghastly scenes, the story of a film could remain intact.

The same can be said about some movies which are based on classics. The beautiful description of pure love between two people is often depicted as a pure masala movie with lots of sex, violence and glamour.

Violence in Visual Media

The Types and Degrees of Violence

(a) The use of foul language, slang, the raising of the voice. The vocal description of violent deeds.

(b) Mass killing, such as bombings, battles, wars, etc. Premeditated and well planned ways of killing and hurting.

(c) Horrible scenes of extra - terrestrial, ghastly and other - worldly violence.

Reel violence has a story that develops into a climax logically. Therefore, it cannot be all that harmful. In fiction, an individual is compelled to act outside the law to get justice, even though it hurts.

Researchers say it is a ' cyclic system ' that traps all, the producers and the audience. Media industry people parcel out the responsibility a little to everyone.

Actors blame the directors, directors blame the scriptwriters, who blame the producers, who say advertisers demand rating and results. Therefore, action - oriented films are in demand, which means sex and violence. Advertisers want to reach the maximum people to make the largest sales.
