The Philosophy Of Carpe Diem

Ever wondered what's common amongst all people who have ever made a name for themselves? The answer is - Carpe Diem. The Latin phrase Carpe Diem means 'Seize the Day' or 'Pluck the Day'.

Many people talk about the past, the things which can no longer be changed. They allow a bad incident, relationship or decision from the past to have a command on their present and the upcoming future. While on the other hand,there are few people who worry about the inevitable and uncertain future. In both these situation,the individuals miss out on realizing the value of the present or today and in the process they allow either their tragic past or their mysterious future to hamper their growth. The concept of Carpe Diem directs us towards believing in the present. Carpe Diem focuses on making the most of the day we are living in without regretting what's left behind, as well as not worrying about what is yet to come.

In today's technologically advanced world people seem to be so rational and calculative in their approach that they believe in designing their future in advance. In an attempt to design this future people get so engrossed in their future that they remain oblivious to the essence of their present. The obsession of having a brighter future has trapped us in a rat race. People seem to be mechanically moving towards a mirage similar to the hands of a clock.

If for once we excuse ourselves from framing our lives in a particular set manner and look beyond the materialistic world we will realize the importance of living in the present and enjoying life one day at a time.

In Dead Poets Society, Robin Williams says and I quote - " And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."

A bird sitting on the branch of a tree isn’t afraid of the breaking of the branch because that bird has power in her wings. Human beings also have those invisible wings. Build your trust in yourself. And then carpe diem will echo in your life. Don’t care about what others will think. People will judge you, they will try to pull you down, and they will make fun of you. They will criticise your ideas, your doings, your thinking. Everything of yours will be made fun off. But you have to keep moving and have to continue taking this journey. Don’t allow others to cease your present from you. Just step into the doors.

No one has seen the future; you never know what future has in store for you. Don’t wait for anyone. If you plan to do something then start doing it now, if you have to taste a specific dish from a particular country do it today,your wildest dream, your bizarre plans in life – go for them. If you have to apologize to someone then make your move. If you have to confess your love then straight away go and do it. Anything you have ever wanted, start working on it . Time waits for none. We don’t have a long life, so squeeze it as much as possible. Carpe Diem or you will be lost forever in the crowd.
