What is ego? What exactly this word means?

We mostly use word "ego" in the negative sense as while denoting situations like for say a person ignored you, suddenly you conclude saying he's egoistic.

Now the question is why we said that? We could have said something else but we are not.

Though we use it in our daily life conversation without knowing it's real meaning.

Ego has a very important influence on human personality. It is the source of self-consciousness, confidence and determination in a person's life. It provides great strength to every being. Ego always tries to be right, and wants to be superior. It is that part of a human that experiences the outside world and react to what's happening. It acts as a mediator between you and society as well as other physical environments.

So, it is very much important to have a positive interaction and react in a positive manner. But not everyone is born with raging ego but almost all fuel our ego knowing or unknowing. People are always ready to blame others or raise voices against the situation.

This happens all because of ego. The ego is shaped by a variety of factors including friendships, family life, work, religions, what we see, what we do, how we are treated, internal and external expectations, it can be negatively and positively influenced by essentially everything. Therefore, the ego is something flexible, something that can be expanded and depleted. It has always will be one of the main reasons for the downfall of human beings.

People need to develop an ego in a positive manner because to have a positive ego means to be happy. Positive ego is the ego that does not want to hurt any living being, in the slightest degree. Whereas, negative ego is the cause of unhappiness and misery. If someone insults you and you harbour animosity and enmity towards that person, then it is a negative ego. Any kind of egoism, whether positive or negative, is harmful to our spiritual progress. So stop talking about the Ego, and focus on letting go of negativity.

Here are a few strategies that will help you develop a positive ego boost in no time.

  • Do what makes you happy without allowing what others may think about you or your decisions to deter you. Once you stop worrying about keeping up with appearances, your mind and soul will be free.

  • When you present yourself in a neat and stylish manner, your ego will instantly increase because, when you look good, you feel good. You will automatically walk with your head a bit higher when you are feeling confident about your appearance.

  • Surround yourself with people who care about you and appreciate you. If your friends and family are constantly giving you unwarranted criticism, this can undoubtedly lead to low self-esteem.

Many people struggle with insecurity and self-doubt. However, if you are able to effectively implement the strategies listed above, you will that notice your self-esteem rise quickly and will change your outlook towards the world.
