While the mainstream Bollywood industry continues to make movies like SOTY2, Tamil movie industry is giving Gola’s to achieve. I am not denying the fact that this industry lacks movies that evade sense, gender equality and reality. There are movies like Maari2 and VIP. But the number of good movies this industry produces is unmatchable. When somewhere else good movie becomes a once in a blue moon phenomenon, for Tamil movie industry it is routine.

Having born in Kerala, Tamil movies are in my genes. So I get to watch all these movies quite naturally. But for a person not from the South, it requires a conscious effort to seek out these movies. Missing these movies is a gross injustice done to them and to the India cinema. If as a genuine movie lover you wish good content to be promoted, do watch these movies.....

1. Pariyerum Perumal

Directed by Mari Selvan, the movie tells the story of Pariyan, a law student. Born to a lower caste, discriminations were no novel experience to him. But things take a darker side when the law college where lessons of equality must be taught promotes caste discrimination. Each frame in the movie has deeper meanings.

2. Kolamavu kokila

The movie is comic. This describes the journey of Kokila and her unusual attempts to save here ailing mother. Being a woman, when the audience expects her to be timid and un- adventurous she proves them drastically wrong.

3. Super deluxe

There are 4 simultaneous stories happening at the same time in the frame. Each one of them has contemporary significance. The movie slams religious superstitions, male hypocrisy and the disgust society has for the third sex.

4. Aruvi

Though body fluids are also a potential medium for AIDS transmission, only the sexual path gets highlighted. This eventually leads to social stigma towards affected patients. Thrown out of the family for bearing the virus, Aruvi the young girl breaks all the social conventions to enjoy freedom. She is also vulnerableto sexual exploitations for being all alone. The movie stands out because this girl has a befitting reply to all those exploitations.

5. Kakka muttai

Childhood equated with innocence. Hence it’s the innocence of childhood that we get here. Though innocent, their wish to have a slice pizza which obviously they can’t afford questions the class barriers of the society.

These are simply outstanding for its engaging screenplay, acting and direction . But there are some honorary mentions as well :

1. Soodhu kaavum

2. Vikram vedha

3. 96

4. Imaikka nodigal

5. Andavan kattalai

Watch these movies so that good content is always promoted here!!!!
