ON may 23, 2019 I went through post election traumatic disorder. Never heard of this disorder? It is that disorder of a democratic- sane mind where the brain constantly indulges in uncertainties regarding future.Does it sound familiar now? Many of us might have underwent this while glancing through the election results. Yes glancing because I couldn’t watch fully.

So why do we get this? Every disease must have some reason behind its occurrence. Genetics, lack of hygiene, exposure to infected environment are the possible reasons behind common maladies. But this is not a common malady. Yet it must also need reasons.

Having to think about nothing on that Thursday I set out to find out the reasons. Surprisingly enough they were not hard to find out.

Reason 1: total disgust for the Hindutva ideology

Anything in excess is poisonous. But my hatred towards this ideology is paramount. To the extent that I dream of a day when people will renounce this ideology completely. Now the election results was in complete contrast to this dream. My psyche had a panic attack

Reason 2: clueless about what people want

Democracy is for the people, of the people and by the people. So whatever people want gets the mandate in an election . But it can’t be true about this election. Employment, fair wages, protection of minority interests were all fake promises. Is it Hindu rashtra then everyone wants??? Even that thought is shuddering which ultimately led to Panic attack number 2.

Reason 3: what is in store for us in future

Education sector, economy, social justice ..everything was already in distress. What could be worse than this? Will we survive the worst? This gave me Panic attack number 3.

Reason 4: what is the solution

I thought the myriad dissenting voices from the masses could make a difference. But no. Then how many more do we want (dissenting voices)? Will we ever be able to solve the deep trouble we are in. Here comes my Panic attack number4

4 panic attacks in day can damage the sanest of the brains. Then the effect it had on my already eccentric brain is tremendous .

To all who had similar conversations with yousrselves, you are not alone in this .....let’s endure the journey together!!!!
