Rajasthan is a well-known place in the map of India, not only due to historical glamour and the valor of Rajputana, but also for its diversified natural attraction that enriched the Tourism industry in India. One who is travelholic must visit Rajasthan and can feel the panoramic view of mountains and desert. Moreover, as an Indian, I feel a desire to know the heritage of India and need to know the traditions and rituals of our country.
Among a bunch of places to visit, I always refer to visit Jaisalmer – the Golden City, as you can feel the call of history there, along with the scenic beauty of the city. You will fall in love with the Sun’s rays falling on the sands of “Thar” desert, making it immensely beautiful, thus making the panorama a magical marvel. If you stay 2 days in Jaisalmer in February end, you can also experience the grandeur of the Desert Festival. In this festival, you can observe the traditional Rajasthan presented with many cultural events, thereby entertaining the visitors with much pomp and splendor. Decorated Camels taking part in a race are the most enjoyable event. Jaisalmer was named after Maharaja Jaisal Singh, the then King of this place, who built this fort in 1156 A.D. The Golden Fort is still a gorgeous monument and considered as the second oldest fort in Rajasthan. The fort is built up by yellow limestones, which produces a camouflage in the yellow desert as it reflects the last rays of the Sun. Due to this magical view, it is termed as “Sonar Qila” or Golden Fort. The Fort stands proud on the Trikuta hill with one-fourth of the population of the city living there.
Jaisalmer is well connected with Delhi and Jaipur by road and railway. The nearest airport is Jodhpur. I always choose to travel by train as I can be free from travel lag as well as enjoy the beauty of nature through the compartment window. I stayed at Star Haveli Resort and enjoyed their hospitality there. The management was very caring for their guests and takes care of every small need of the boarder. We were welcomed at the Jaisalmer station by our contact person and were served a welcome drink on reaching the resort. Jaisalmer tour began on the next, but we took a light walk through the market in the afternoon and experienced varieties of Rajasthani ornaments and clothing along with their gorgeous handicrafts. Next day morning, we were out for sightseeing and visited Patwa Haveli, Nathmal Haveli, Gadissar Lake, and War Museum. In the afternoon, we are delighted with traditional Rajasthani dish including the Daal Bati Churma. We were scheduled for a camel safari in the desert and opted for a night camping to enjoy the folklore of Rajasthan. I always thank my driver cum guide to make my travel experience a great memoir. After two days, I returned to Delhi with a sweet memory and an eagerness to visit Jaisalmer again.
