#Myvalentine #Myfirstlove and yeh #MeToo. Now in almost every post, you must be finding same or different hashtags, attached to every post. Thanks to Jio that gave us cheap internet, now almost 56% of Indian population is available online and put every kind of hashtags to get more likes, to make their post popular. But actually only a few are there who are digitally educated, most of the people don't even know why and how this" hashtag" works and how it can be beneficial for them.

In this post I am going to discusss where, how and why of using hashtags.

What is a Hashtag?

It is used to categorise similar content, related article and insights. If not used properly, then it can appear for irrelevant searches. It first gained fame on Twitter in the year 2007, but now it can be used on other social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Google+. Anyone sharing content on a relevant topic can add hashtag label to their message. Another searching for the topic can easily get to that post on search.

How to use Hashtag?
Hey,it's not rocket science! It's quite easy to use.
1.Don't use space. It's not the Temple Run.
It can be a single word, an abbreviation, a combination of letter and number or a phrase. If its a phrase then also no space is allowed. Numbers are fine, but there should be at least a letter.

2.Start with #
Every hashtag starts with symbol # and it is followed by a letter. The place where you use space you marks the ending of your hashtag.

3.Create your own hashtag
You can start your own hashtag. But a hashtag should be relevant with your post, campaign or event. Research and then comeup with most relevant hashtag. There is no such thing like the patent in the case of a hashtag, so you can use any trending hashtag to increase the search appearances of your post.

However, hashtag and user name shouldn't match. The user might probably interpret it as an attempt to the violation of copyright.

4.Feel free to use it anywhere
There is no rule as such which defines where a hashtag should be placed in a post. It could be at the start, end or even anywhere in the middle of a post. The only thing that matters is wherever it is it should make sense. But there should be consistency in using a hashtag.

5.Small is fine
Always use a small hashtag, as they are easy to remember. It is easy to create a recall value with small name. Just use hashtag whenever you want to enter in a trending discussion taking place over all the social media platform.

Power of hashtags for small business and digital marketing
1.Any campaign and contest can gain its popularity using placement of accurate hashtags. This popularity will yield you, followers. Though FB has strict norms, this can be a cakewalk on Twitter. You run the contest and use hashtags. Voila! you have gained a permanent reach in the form of followers of that contest.

2.Develop a network of people, who might be interested in your business. Using suitable hashtags you can reach to those people.

3.Arrange a conference meeting with like-minded people and dedicate a hashtag for all the processes involved in between.

4.Find and share business deals using the right hashtags among a community of business people.
5.Keywords, when used as hashtags can boost search engine marketing.

Caution...Alert! Alert! Alert!

Don't use hashtags recklessly. Avoid using too much hashtags in same message. Not more then two hashtags should be used in one post and also try to put only most relevent hashtags. just if a hashtag is most trending, don't ever put that unrelated hashtags in your post, as it reduces your credibility. On FB and Twitter maximum number of hashtags could be two. More then two hastags reduce the engagement and reach. However upto ten hashtags could be used on Instagram, but again it is the maximum limit.

So, Keep Calm and Use Hashtags. But-but-but, Keep in Mind all the Above Instructions.
