Nepotism is the practice of preferring family over viable candidates for the sake of promoting relatives. It will be wrong to say that Nepotism is not prevalent in our society because in reality, India is one of those countries who suffers the most from the same. India has a reputation for Nepotism especially in the field of Politics. The term “Dirty Politics” is a frequent term that can be heard from both, the layman as well as the politicians to explain how ‘fair’ the gameplay is. Nepotism has contributed infinitely to this account.

Nepotism is a problem that is not only faced in industries like Politics but also in a very different type of field like the Bollywood too. Preferring to choose an individual only because their family personnel has a ‘name’ or has created an empire does not give anybody the right to dissuade others from not choosing the people who are in reality, actually talented and are far more deserving of the role than some spoilt rich kid who hasn’t seen struggle their whole life. I do not want to be interpret wrong by saying so because in no way do I mean to conclude that people born into such professions should not be given a chance because they should be given all the opportunities that a normal candidate will receive. The problem arises when such candidates get more preference than a regular candidate with less hard work, lesser procedural tests and leniency in the same. It becomes Nepotism when a deserving candidate is rejected and his/her role is given to someone who already has a well-established family member in the industry.

The position of power comes with a certain responsibility to which people have to abide to and are answerable for the same and in respect to the power they hold.

According to me, the people who hold the position of power are at fault in this regard. While we do hold them accountable, it is also rather obvious that they are the only ones that can make it right and set a better example for the future generations that to gain a position, one has to work hard and not let others do his work for him. It is important for us as youth to also understand that such things do not continue in the near future.
