Persian artists refined and polished their work with the help of Indian artists. Mughals were really impressed by Indian styles and added general ornamentation and beautiful detailed borders in Persian work.
A new culture was promoted under Mughal rulers. It stated with Timur dynasty, even before emperor Babur. The art style was at its zenith during 15th century when Mughal rulers really appreciated and promoted artworks and other talents like music, poetry, dancing, architecture and many more cultures. The most golden period for Mughal art was during the ruling of Akbar and Jahangir.
Emperor Akbar was deeply interested in art of paintings, architecture and sculptures too. A large number of Indian artists got employed during this ruling and many were hired as official painters in the court itself. There are many manuscripts and illustrations from his time. He became very popular in a short period because of his greatness and power.
Jahangir, son of Akbar was also great appreciator of art and nature. It was the peak time for Indian art. Number of paintings of birds, flowers and animals were painted. Portrait paintings became popular in India and painters started making realistic paintings. There are many painting collections displayed in National Museum, New Delhi.
After Jahangir’s death, his son did not promoted art like his father. He was more keen about architecture. He built numerous forts, palaces and mosques. One of the seven wonders, Taj Mahal was built by his son, Shahjahan.
Mughal emperors always craved for showing their royal power. There are also scenes painted showing war victories, royal huntings and huge gatherings. Mughal art styles saw its end during the rule of Aurangzeb in 18th century.
Mughal Architecture is popular in India for their forts, gardens and Mosques mainly. Their main features are grand structure, geometrical and floral pattern, calligraphic decorations. Their patterns were exquisite, keeping design principles in mind. Amazing balance of symmetry, repetition and positive, negative spaces. The geometrical patterns were greatly accurate and we're merged with floral designs. Calligraphy patterns were also linked with geometry. Every symbol and letter were arranged accurately with mathematical formulas. Mughals had great love for Architecture and their style was dynamic.
