Bodyshaming.

An insistence to change appearance is a regular affair, we see dailies continually offering tips regarding how to get more fit, seem slimmer "in a flash," and conceal our flaws, having know substantial knowledge about who we are, where we come from. Here, I only provide with one instance of body-shaming, but I also assure that it is all over. On social gatherings, for another instance, you would often encounter relatives who have not seen you in years, advising you to either lose or gain weight, to apply fairness cream, to try and grow beard, often making satirical comments on your height, too.

A question to ask here would be, why do they do this? The answer being, to fit you in the notion of 'ideal' that the society has developed through the years, concerning appearance. Bodyshamers do not comprehend that they often do not fit into the parameters of beauty that the society has put forward, and end up criticizing their own selves, not being able to tolerate their own bodies for what they are. This may prompt a low confidence in those they shame, and themselves, leading to severe mental health disturbances. To provide with another example, some of the leading comedy shows habitually utilize overweight characters' bodies as the premise of a large number of the show's jokes. It has turned into the standard to carefully scrutinize the bodies, disapproving of people for what they are.

Ambitious as it sounds, speaking up is always important in order to stop people from bodyshaming. As much as we should speak up for ourselves, we should speak up for each person being body-shamed. When confronted, people often give body-shaming the name of concern, or humor, however, it is essential to remember that neither do genuine well-wishers cause you trauma, nor is bodyshaming funny. Messages from the media, and individuals suggesting that we should make changes to our appearance should not be entertained. It is essential to remember, bodyshaming is a crime, and no body-type can define you. Knowing this act is criminal, unlearn, try and restore your confidence, I know it will take time, but it surely is achievable if we all try together. Most of all, know you are beautiful, just how you are.
