‌On the roads of Indian democracy, we have travelled for about 71 years now, and shall continue the journey for years to come in the same rickety ancient grubby vehicle of ours that has driven us for so long. The list of travellers is an assemblage of young vehement men and women. The balant contrast among them arouses debates which makes us ponder over the role of youth in Indian politics.

‌Youth brigade is indeed a powerful exhilarated mob full of spontaneity, ecstacy and passion, which can be looked upon in both positive and negative lights. Youth is the young blood of the nation and therefore is demanded of taking responsibilities of the state.

However, there is also a constant rejection of youth in politics on similar lines. They are considered green and immature to venture into politics.

‌But we must not forget the amendment of the constitution that brought in "Universal Adult franchise", which reduced the voting age from 21 to 18. Such reduction in voting age imparts to the youth a sense of responsibility and transfers onto them a hope of change for the betterment.

India has the best demographic profile in terms of youth population. About50%of the population is below 25 years of age, which depicts the signaficance of youth in politics. Their rational way of thinking shall unleash a new phase of Indian republic.

‌But the world of politics is not at all hunky dory. It is dominated by experienced leaders who may entirely reject the views and ideologies of the younger generation.

As far as politics in college campuses is concerned, campuses often become battlefields with rival groups attacking each other. Heavy police deployment is also unable to stop them because of reluctance to use forces against the younger generation. This also becomes a reason for their prevention ofparticipation in politics.

‌Youth today do not take politics as a field to venture into. They are to the opinion that only dishonest and avaricious men choose politics, that there areblack sheeps in the entire segment, and the only reason of participation in politics for such men is to reap monetary benefits, and not for the welfare of the state.

Today, there are just handful of young leaders in politics. They are certainly improving over the years, yet less than the expected rates. Youth often complains about the current political scenario, yet they must be reminded that-

BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD.
Be the one to lead the country from darkness to light. Guard your light and move it forward into the world. If you connect light to light and connect billion young people of the world today, you will be enough to set our whole planet aglow.
