We all have, at one point or the other, used the term - "self-love". "You need to learn to love yourself more", "Until you don't love yourself, no one can love you", "Why don't you love yourself?". These are only a few sentences that talk about self-love. The term "self-love" is being used very normally in conversations in the recent years.

What does self-love actually mean?

Self-love is a state of appreciation that grows from our actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. These are actions that mature us or help us grow as an individual. Self-love influences who we choose as our partner, how we cope with personal problems, how we react in stressful situations and the image we portray of ourselves in different areas of life.

In the recent years, there has been a lot of importance given to self-love, especially to the youth.

Why are we stressing on self-love? Is loving yourself important?
To answer that question, YES, self-love is an important part of everyone's life.

Why is self-love so imoprtant?
Ideally, there should be no reason to not love yourself, but the society we live in or the people we are surrounded by or our own negative thoughts about ourself don't make it that easy for us. Recently, a lot of importance is being given to self-love because a lot of teenagers and young adults are suffering from body image issues, negative feelings towards self, etc. hence there is an actual need to educate the people about the importance of self-love.

Let's point out a few reasons as to why self-love is so important :

  • It creates happiness. Being happy should be the aim of every individual's life and you can only be happy and satisfied once you love yourself and accept your flaws and make them your strengths.

  • It creates confidence and confidence looks good on everyone. It is impossible to have confidence, if you don't love yourself.

  • It helps you to have a healthy mind-set, which is important for accepting yourself and for being comfortable in your own skin.

  • It creates a positive body image, which again comes with the acceptance of your flaws and yourself.

Self-love is a process and it doesn't just happen one day. It takes time and effort. a few self-love practices that you can do are :

  • Accept yourself, acceptance of your flaws and of yourself is half the work done there.

  • Take good care of yourself, because if you take care of yourself only then will you be able to love yourself.

  • Protect yourself from all the negativity in your life. Surround yourself with positive people and environment.

  • Start saying "NO" for the things you are unwilling to do becasue setting boundaries is important and unless you don't set them You will be drained emotionally, physically and psychologically.

All in all, if you begin your work on self-love, you will start accepting youself and will ultimately love yourself. It is completely true that you can not truly love someone until you love yourself and you can only love someone as much as you love yourself. The more self-love you have, the better relationships and people enter your life, the more positivity you are surrounded with.

Let's shower ourself with some love because we know that we deserve it!
