Stress contributes to poor oral health.

Have you ever noticed that when you are in stress you Grind or clench your teeth . This is known as BRUXISM, which may lead to wearing away of teeth, flattening of teeth,loosening of teeth, fracturing of teeth or filling or loss of teeth. It may also lead to pain in tTMJ.

( Grinding means holding the teeth together and moving the jaw.
Clenching means holding the teeth together and tightening the jaw.)
In order to prevent this, consult your doctor for an appliance known as mouth gaurd.

You never feel like doing things when you are under stress. Also, you Don't take care of your oral hygiene. In such a case, you often don't brush or floss regularly which may lead to caries and gum diseases.

For the treatment you will have to visit to your doctor for cleaning and filling. So don't forget to brush and take good care of your oral health at any cost.

When you are stressed, you Eat junk food Containing sugar, which not only affects your teeth but also gums. It will be difficult to avoid snacking on unhealthy foods.

Stressful events may cause lack of saliva leading to Dry mouth .You should definitely consult your doctor because saliva washes away the food particles from teeth thus maintaining oral health. Otherwise it may cause tooth decay.

You may also miss your dental appointments due to stress.

Therefore, it's very important for each one of us to not take stress and keep motivating ourselves.

Here are some tips to help you.
1. You are advised to see a therapist.
2. You can listen to music if it helps even temporarily.
3. You should take sound sleep.
4. You must do excercise and/or walk regularly.
5. You should eat healthy food.
6. Don't forget to take regular appointments with your doctor for cleaning your teethand take their advise.

7. You should maintain your oral hygiene at home: Brush twice daily.

Stress Relieving foods-
Bananas- these are rich in potassium so they help in lowering blood pressure.
Water- it is the simplest way to relieve stress.
Dark chocolate- studies have shown that dark chocolates work wonders in stress.
Almond- stress can make you feel low. Don't worry, just have some almonds daily and you are good to go.

Milk- get calciumbfrom milk that you might have lost due to stress.
Oranges- these give you vit. C

Avoid caffeine whenever you are stressed out.
