When it comes to skincare we sometimes tend to forget a very essential step. TONING. Either we forget it or we deliberately skip it thinking it's not important. But that is definitely not the case.
Back in the day toners were known as skin tonics. They are simply tonics for our skin just like we intake tonics for our body. They are essential because they maintain our skin's pH balance. Our skin is an acidic mantle, so it is very important to maintain the perfect balance. It gets rid of all the dead skin cells revealing fresh and new skin. It also shrinks the appearance of pores and also removes impurities.
There are all different kinds of toners available out there. But how are we supposed to know, which one is right for us?? It's quite simple. Look closely at your skin and find out your problems. Be it acne, inflammation, dry skin, dull skin or anything else. Choose exfoliating, soothing, hydrating and brightening toners according to your skin concerns.
So if you have large pores go for toners that contain AHA. This will help to reduce the size or the appearance of the pores.
If you have dull skin look for toners with natural emollients like papaya or lactic acid. This will help in brightening the skin.
If you have oily acne prone skin just like me, look for toners that will help breakdown the oil and grime in your skin. Toners with AHA BHA works best because this help penetrate into the skin and kill all the acne causing bacteria.
If you have dry skin make sure to avoid products that contain alcohol because this will further dry out your skin. Look for toners with glycerin and hyaluronic acid. This will replinsh your skin and lock in the moisture keeping it hydrated.
If you have sensitive skin look for more natural ingredients like chamomile and aloe vera. These will calm and soothe your skin reducing redness and inflammation.
If you have combination skin you could use any of the toners mentioned above. It's all about maintaining the balance in your skin.
You can apply toner using your hands or a cotton pad to effectively apply toners. Toners come as the second step of skincare. It basically makes the future products applied to the skin, absorb better. So if you are also one of them who thought toners are not essential I hope you would think again twice.
