It is a symptom that is associated with memory loss and the most common type of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease. It comes as people age and is a very common disorder in the older generation. Almost 70-80 percent of the late adulthood deal with it. It can be quite stressful for the other family members but it is even more stressful for the individual going through it. They forget very easily, they have to be reminded about things on a very frequent basis and this can be annoying for the care takers like their children or even grandchildren. Dementia can result in depression as they distance themselves from the other family members they find solace in the company of those like them therefore they start spending time with friends and go out more, so they are not in the depressing scenario of their home on the other hand are those who sit and weep in one corner of the house but sadly there is no one who can hear their cries or let alone give importance to their presence. As they forget things and even names of people they are close they can throw tantrums which does not go down well. Sometimes their own children put them in old age homes or to get rid of them, even engage in crimes such as murder. It can also lead the person towards suicide. They end up being treated as objects not people and are constantly reminded they are a burden. Most of the families having old parents or other older individuals in the house do not realise that it’s not their fault that they forget things. Dementia can be genetic too, what are you going to do when you get old and get the same? How would you like being treated like nobody by your own children? This phrase has been used many times for those who put the older generation in trouble but it hardly has any effect. Some do get a reality check when you make them understand this but what about the others who do not? More focus should be directed toward them who need to understand that their parents never had a say in it. No one wants dementia and if you know someone who has it providesupport, it is going to be stressful but at the end of the day you will be satisfied as a person that you could help someone who has been begging for help but is going unnoticed. “As a child I often wondered why she sat in the far corner mumbling to herself, I never dared to go close because I was scared. What has happened to her she was never like, my bond with her faded like this. Panic arose in the house when she was nowhere to be found, she would often say I will go far away and never return no one believed her, It’s been seven years and she kept her word she hasn’t returned.”
