1) Wearing Revealing clothes

One shouldn't wear too tight or too revealing clothes in India, since the eyes that wander are many but the ones that protect are less. It is considered best to wear Salwar Suit or Sarees (aren't they revealing?) to be safe. But what about the 2-year old baby who was recently raped? Maybe she was not dressed modestly too?

2) Removing shoes outside holy places

As we walk wearing our shoes the whole day, dirt gets accumulated on them. To avoid this dirt from getting transferred inside holy places, it is recommended to remove the shoes.

3) Giving One Extra Rupee for Shagun in Marriages

Understand it like this, if the amount is a whole number ending with 0 for example ₹100 or ₹1000, then it is considered that the marriage will also end in 0. Whereas if It's ₹101 or ₹1001 then the marriage will never break. The extra one rupee is considered extremely auspicious.

Apart from these common rules there are many other don'ts as well, let us peep a bit more.

4) Answering back elders

One should never, I repeat never answer back elders. You have no right to even question their authority no matter how obsolete their mindset is. You should always smile and nod even if an aunty compares you with her kids or praises other's kids. Always reply positively even if she in front of you says you are incompetent. Seriously, never speak a word! (Is killing allowed then?)

5) Taking all Insults with a smile

"Haye haye kitni moti ho gayi hei, nimbu paani piya karo" Smile.

"Haye haye kitni kaali ho gayi hei, besan haldi lagaya karo" Smile.

"Sharma Ji ke Bete ke 98% aye the, iske toh kaafi kam hein" Smile.

Smile is the curve that sets all things straight, except for those mouths of our dearest aunties.

6) Not attending a marriage function

It is considered very bad in India to not attend the marriage function of a close relative. Though you know that your neighbor will tease you for marriage, even when you have told them 100 times that for you studies and a stable career matters more! You still have to attend the wedding or else relatives will get hurt. What about that bugging aunty then?? Refer to the point above and smile.

7) Never talk about harassments

Because the society if you're a girl will point it's finger at you, instead of that moron who committed the cheap act. Further people are very busy in their lives roaming here and there and until and unless it happens to them they don't care.
