Today, people are judged mostly by their outer appearance. If a person is beautiful or handsome, then that person catches everyone’s eye and they are considered “good” and “important”. Contrary to that, if a person is not beautiful or handsome or does not match the standards, people don’t pay that much attention to that person, and sometimes even make fun of that person. There are these ridiculous standards that people have in mind, for any person to be considered pretty or handsome.

Fat shaming is a huge problem all over the world. Girls especially are fat shamed, even for being chubby. According to various standards, girls have to be slim and thin. Any ounce of fat in their body, results in them being fat shamed. Boys are also expected to be fit and without any body fat.

Being fair, thin and slim, without any wrinkles or folds, and having perfect skin, is a sign of beauty. This has been an issue for a long time. Being a little dusky or dark is not that positively accepted in the society. People are pressurized to meet such standards, so that they do all sorts of stuff, without any regard to their health, just to be accepted. Rigorous dieting to lose weight, skin treatments for fairer and perfect skin, and if these methods don’t work out, people resort to plastic surgery.

One reason for such mindsets is that of how public figures are portrayed. Be it in movies, or in pictures, where men and women always seem to be perfect in all aspects. On many social media platforms people flaunt their figures. Keeping this in mind, the public is influenced to be like that and to have those standards.

It is high time that this portrayal has to be corrected. People should be depicted in a realistic manner, so that a wrong message is not sent. They should also be educated to accept everyone as they are, instead of judging them. Everybody is beautiful and unique in their own away. They should accept themselves for who they are and stop trying to change themselves for others. This change is actually happening very slowly. Hopefully, more people change their perspective regarding beauty.

Remeber that you are beautiful as you are. Do not change just for meeting someone's standards.
